Managing stress during the holiday season

"Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions." -- Pema Chodron

The holidays are wonderful for so many reasons; good food, good company, beautiful snow, cozy fires, time to relax and simply be joyful... the list goes on and on. There is a reason this season is one of the most talked about and hyped up times of the year.

However, with the added company and small, shared spaces often comes stress. Big meals, more messes, loud noises, tension, and possibly even jitters from being out of your routine... While there are numerous positives about the holiday season, there are also many stressors. That's why it's especially important to take time for yourself during these times. Learn to say no if that is what is best for you. Take time for yourself, step out of the room for five minutes and enter the quiet that is elsewhere. Take a few deep breaths. Let yourself come first, be in the stillness, and then go back feeling refreshed.

I know it's not always easy. And sometimes you may even be around people who seem like they are trying to start something for seemingly no reason. Unfortunately you can't control their actions. But what you can control is your reaction. Don't get involved. Let it be their problem, not yours. Focus on the many many positives of the holidays instead of the negatives. This, like everything in life, is temporary. And it really is a magical time. So let that be your focus Instead. Do whatever you need to care for yourself and enjoy the wonders of the holiday season. Soon it will be over. 🎄✨
