Add subtitle text encoding function to frostwire video player

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

Components

Frostwire torrent downloader is an open source app used for downloading and also for playing media files. Since it is synced to the internet, I believe it is possible to add subtitle function to the video player. What this feature does is to display a textual version of audio dialog in films.

Proposal

The developers of this app should make the suggested feature available on the frostwire video player. Where a video lacks audibility, subtitle function sets in to ensure users do not miss out on a dialog. Note that this feature can only be programmed to work with videos that already have their subtitles uploaded to any online server.

Mockups / Examples

Subtitles usually appear at the bottom of the screen as seen on the screen shot below.

The below screen shot shows how the suggested feature is designed on another media player.

When clicked on the subtitle encoding button as shown on the image above, the following page displays different languages for subtitle.

See where this feature can be placed on the frostwire application on the below image.

Benefits

Having this feature would benefit users when playing films with low quality or no audio at all. It is the sole purpose for building any program as this on any of this kind of application. Subtitles help summarize audio dialog in a text format . I believe this would make the frostwire application more user friendly.
