Scottsdale, Arizona - A Town Full of History, Art, and Beauty

in #travel7 years ago

Perhaps one of the most interesting U.S. towns, Scottsdale, Arizona tops my list of favorite cities. Surrounded by the beautiful desert mountains and engulfed in the culture, one is easily in awe. Most cities have only a few unique attractions to offer; however, Scottsdale has so much more. A mix of wonderful landscapes, Native American culture, active nightlife, and even golf, Scottsdale is sure to please.

Even if you aren’t an architect, it is easy to appreciate the Taliesin West, designed by architect, Frank Lloyd Wright and considered one of his best works. The Taliesin West served not only as Wright’s School of Architecture, but also as his winter home from 1937 until his death in 1959. Wright felt strongly about using materials readily available, and the Taliesin West is no exception. The structure features walls that are made from local desert rock and an abundance of natural light through a translucent canvas. Today, the Taliesin West is the main campus of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, and is open to the public for tours.

Anyone who has visited Scottsdale knows there is an abundance of artwork housed in the numerous museums. Artwalk is a popular attraction that been around for over 30 years and features more than 100 galleries, representing every medium and style of art. Every Thursday night of the year the galleries open their doors for art lovers to get to know the artists and galleries. The event also includes live music, wine tastings, and artists demonstrations, and stretches across eight blocks. Everyone is sure to find something that catches the eye.

Even the buildings in Old Town Scottsdale are works of art that are full of history, with numerous buildings around since the 1920s. You'll also find 19th century olive trees.

For a little luxury in Scottsdale, The Talking Stick Resort is the place to be. The resort houses a 240,000 square foot casino, a showroom, panoramic views, and even a spa. There are 6 restaurants in The Talking Stick, each with their own culinary experience. You can also test your golf skills on a 36-hole championship course.
