A Weekend in Canada: Toronto and Niagara Falls

in #travel7 years ago

HI! I'M BACK!

Last weekend I got the chance to visit Niagara Falls! Thank you @elecbubble and @ericrumor for taking me and @matt-a to Canada!

We began our journey to the falls from Detroit where we currently reside, it only takes a few minutes through the tunnel to get there, surprisingly the border control didn't take long at all and we made it to Windsor in no time.
Turned out it was Canada's 150th birthday that day and there was a lot of traffic on the roads which slowed us down a little bit.

Look at this kitty riding in an automobile!

Canadian cats are fearless, I mean, do you see that face?! Haha
Maybe I got too excited about seeing a cat, but hey, it isn't every day you see one travel in a car with its head outta the window!

When I'm not taking pictures of cats, I take selfies.

Our first stop was in Windsor because we had to get some coffee from Timmy's :). I thought it was funny how people call Tim Hortons over there, and I called it that too while in Canada of course!

It doesn't take a long time to get to Toronto from Detroit. I think it only took us like 4 or maybe 5 hours? I slept through a lot of it haha.
The city itself sort of had a European feel to it, as far as architecture goes, in a way it was like the USA and Europe combined.
I loved how multicultural it was as well, I've never seen so many different people concentrated in one city, it was impressive, the world in a pocket! I tried to count how many Russian-speaking people I meet, so far I think I got 10, but it was a lot for just a few hours of walking downtown. In Detroit, for instance I only heard Russian once at Belle Isle haha.

On our way to Niagara Falls we stopped at lake Ontario to do a little looking around and I found some REDCURRANTS! YES! I haven't seen or eaten those in several years. My grandma used to have them in her garden, I think she still does, she actually has both redcurrants and the black ones, either one is pretty good, but the blackcurrants are sweeter.
I got a handful of those and ate them, and I didn't die!

There was another encounter, take a look here. I wish I could do that with my cats :(.

Aren't these just so pretty?!

I had no idea that Niagara Falls was not only the name for the famous waterfalls, but also the name of the city where they are located, it was quite a discovery for me. I guess I just never really thought about that . . . Anyways, we made it to Niagara Falls in the evening.

There are three waterfalls that make Niagara Falls: the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls is the biggest among the free of them and the most beautiful one.
When you get to the Niagara Falls, you start hearing the roar of the water way before you actually get to see the waterfalls and the falls are so hefty that you can feel the sprinkles on your face from far away, it was pretty amazing.

To be honest I did not expect the waterfalls to be that beautiful. When I saw them, I stood there for awhile in awe. Earth is a pretty cool place to live.

This is what the Horseshoe waterfall looks like in the dark. We drove there to see the lights on the waterfalls, but they turned them off a few minutes before we parked, what a misfortune!

Very nice trip! We went to Canada last year and visited so many places, my favorite one is Quebec.

Oh cool! I haven't been there, but I would love to check it out.

Thanks for sharing! Niagara Falls will never get old for me. I have been there as a kid and recently took my kid there...and I was just as awe struck as she was. If you have yet to go...please do.

That is great! I would definitely go again next time, those waterfalls are breath taking!

What a wonderful spot - off the beaten track for you, I think. I love the ocean being right there. The whole place looks magic. Thanks for such a detailed post
