I am from India. Google for Meghalaya state in India. It’s very accessible now. You need to catch a flight to Guwahati in Assam and then go by road to Meghalaya.
The whole state has clear water lagoons, beautiful waterfalls. There are a bunch of tree bridges made by people here. Do google for “tree bridges in Nongriat”. It’s just amazing how man and nature can achieve solutions. Those bridges are super strong and the only way you can cross a strong flood.
The people are called Khasi people. Let me tell you that they’re the most simple and hospitable people I found in India and India does have a lot of beautiful hospitable communities. They have a matrilineal society. The guy moves in with the girl after the wedding and takes her first name. The girl child inherits all the wealth. A beautiful society I tell ya.
One of the wettest places in the Earth: Cherrapunji is in this state. Best time to go is now actually. It rains very heavily so may don’t go during rains.
