Stemmit Community Asks A Cop!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Welcome to the introduction of a new bi-weekly segment where I'm giving the community the opportunity to ask anything, and I do mean ANYTHING, of yours truly, a professional law enforcement officer, detective, and undercover-sleuth.

Rules

The only rule I ask is civility. Anti-Police sentiment is at an all time high which is in part why I'd like to do something like this. I won't beat around any bushes or attempt to make excuses for any wrong doing by police but I will NOT accept hostility or attacks. I believe in healthy debate and almost prefer individuals who've had problems with or don't understand the law enforcement community.

I will take questions in the comments and on Monday, 10/30/2017 by noon EST. I'll answer the question(s) with the most upvotes. I'll try to hit as many as I can in one post. If I don't get to all of them, I'll save them for a later post or roll them into the next week. This process will be fluid and I welcome any criticism that may improve it.

If you'd like to submit a question anonymously, please feel free to DM me on steemit chat or discord and I'll consider it as well. Most likely I'll answer them in a separate post concealing the identity of the asker.

My experiences are all based in the United States. Laws are different everywhere so I'll try to be as specific as possible and will research areas that I'm not familiar with in order to provide the best answer possible. For countries besides the United States, I can't comment specifically to first hand knowledge but I will attempt to explain with a combination of general experience and research done about the laws in that specific area.

Example Questions

Pretty much everything goes. Ever get a speeding ticket and want to know how to get out of it? Best practices to not get arrested or what to do if you ever do? Drug related questions (my specialty)? What if scenarios based on high profile news incidents. Personal stories. Everything is fair game.

Let's Make This Fun But Educational

Disclaimer: I'm no author, no poet, and no intellectual so don't expect some enlightening flow of words. I'm just a regular guy who loves facts, but as Liam Neeson said, "I have a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you". -Taken

About Me

My law enforcement career spans nearly 10 years. I started in 2008 where every career begins, on "the road" as a patrol officer in Atlanta (United States). I work in a very diverse, multi-cultural, and very violent area. For almost 5 years, I've done undercover work targeting cartel level narcotics, human trafficking, and hunting violent fugitives.

So, Lets Do This!

Ask away my Steem friends!!

Sort:

What is your opinion of "asset forfeiture"?

I will answer this shortly, thank you for the question.

Oh what about money laundering via steemit? I am sure law enforcement would be interested in that, if it was happening?

I would also be curious as to what sort of 'online' crimes you deal with?

Great question! I don't think that Steemit would be great for money laundering since it usually occurs in such large numbers. Maybe if a small time operation wanted to clean a few hundred dollars they could. I have experience dealing with the dark web or dark net with illegal drug transactions, human trafficking, underage solicitation of minors, kiddy porn, and prostitution.

Terrible and disappointing comments so far ... I'll throw a couple in...

  1. Any of these people you pursue end up using cryptocurrency? And does that complicate anything?
  2. How has the generally negative police sentiment affected the job?
  3. What kind of things warrant filling a police report? Specifically, is there a bar where you know that the report will be so low priority it will be thrown in the trash and laughed at? (One example comes to mind is a friend that got IRS phone scammed into buying gift cards)

Thanks for doing this, by the way. Interested in hearing about your perspectives.

Thank you for playing. It appears you may be the only one and I appreciate your effort. Gotta say, I'm kinda bummed by the turnout. I'll answer these questions tomorrow afternoon in a post and gift a portion of that posts earnings for your valiant effort.

Can you please comment on the Sovereign Citizens movement? Are they creating big problems for police? Within what you can say, are there organised pockets of SCs getting involved in organised crime?

good article
I hope everyone will be benefited

Me too, that's the plan!
