How To Get Followers On Stemit?

I've been on Steemit for quite a while now. and I have posted over 50 posts. but one thing I'm lacking here right now is followers. Can you experienced users give me some tips about getting a few followers? what should I do? Should I post on communities so I get more visibility or should I just post on my blog so that people know they have to follow my account in order to see my stuff? that if they like my stuff of cause.

I have been on a few social media platforms before and I had followers there but that platform is no longer working. so I tried things I did on that old platform here too. like posting about trending topics, posting similar stuff that successful users post, and participating in communities. but it didn't work for me. The only thing I haven't tried here is doing follow-for-follow because I believe in the long run it doesn't work.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here? or are my posts that bad that people don't follow me? or does it take more time than on other platforms for you to get recognized here?
