Introduction to the experiment

in #steemexclusive23 days ago (edited)

This week I conducted a psychological experiment, I thought of it last week, I ran it on Monday and the result came on Tuesday. I admit that I thought it up and ran it, wanting to write a post about it, wanting to document it, write it down and save it somewhere.
We've discussed here a while back the usefulness of Steemit as a daily journal, and I recently read through some of my old handwritten journals - if you only know what I found there!
Therefore, I confirm - diaries are something very useful, and although nowadays I am too lazy to write by hand, here is another way - the blog in Steemit.

The experiment I conducted now was doomed, predetermined. I pretty much knew what the outcome would be, though there were too many variations on that predetermined outcome - all going in the same direction.
There was almost no point in it, it was known in advance what would happen - nothing. And conducting it would not change anything, would not achieve anything.
Yet you know how stubborn I am.😄

Last year I told you how I found the cell phone, personal or business one, I don't know, of a human resources manager at a company I was applying to. It had outsourced the recruitment for a given position to a recruitment firm, but that firm made the mistake of telling me which company it was. So, after being told that I had 0 points on the German test, that is, I didn't fill anything in it, because obviously I don't know this language, I found the phone of the HR manager of the company to ask her what exactly happened to my test to show this ridiculous result. I don't know what happened after that. Between her and the recruiters, what did they say to each other, did they argue with each other or not, because that was the order of things, but this woman called me back, apologized, and gave the real, high scores of my tests, in English and German.
Then she assigned me an additional exam for another position and with English that I didn't apply for, only to reject me again. Yes, the point and purpose was right there in the rejection in this case, and that's when I realized that they weren't really looking for employees to do well in the interview exams, but to collect personal data or something else unrelated to recruitment of staff at all.
And yet. If I hadn't done then what I did, I would probably have continued to ask myself questions, the answers to which have long since passed.

And here, this year again I am faced with some precedent, about which I also told you somewhat, and which actually turned out to be the reason for me to stop applying for a job already in this country, and to think about something else.
It's about the last company I applied to, a Bulgarian-German one, the two interviews that went well, the three-day exam that I managed to do and how they made me believe that they would hire me, and then they called me to say at the last moment they have selected another candidate for the position.

I experienced... I don't even know what I experienced then, it was at the beginning of April. It was...bewilderment on top of all the disappointment. Because it was quite unexpected. I had expected everything else then - low salary, bad working conditions, etc., but not this. And maybe that's why I didn't think to ask in this last conversation, why they preferred someone else, what did he/she beat me with, what were his/her advantages, what specifically did I miss for this position... I didn't think to ask such questions.

I've told you before that when I apply for a position, I always do the math on how likely it is to find the right person for it. With all the specific requirements there are usually. At the very least, if someone is looking for a job but hasn't applied for leave yet and has to wait 3 months, that puts them at a disadvantage and me at an advantage because I'm already available and ready to go work immediately. But then - language, skills in this, skills in that, experience in this and that, etc. I had calculated it especially for this position - it would be difficult, even impossible, in my opinion, to find people who would meet 100% of the requirements. I didn't meet them either.

But long story short - in July I saw the same job ad posted again on the job site. I started doing the math again - it hadn't been 4 months, that is the person potentially hired in my place hadn't passed the probationary period and they were already looking for a new person. I waited a day, two, three, but no one called me, although they told me that they would be happy "to keep our good relations for the future". Didn't that mean they would call me if they needed someone for the same position again? After all, I had handled everything well, or so I was told.

Well, strange as it was, no one called me, and this time I experienced anger, on top of all the bewilderment.
And so it was until this month, August, when I saw the same ad posted again for the third time in 5 months.

I might have passed it by again if I hadn't rethought the following - the job position is very specific, the requirements are many, during the second job interview, the manager who had joined the HR manager, had expressed satisfaction with the received results. It was clear that the three-day exam could not be solved well by everyone, a lot of things were required for it...

But let me not go on with that. I just want to say that the labor market in Bulgaria is not some magic bag from which any type and number of specialists can be drawn out endlessly. The population is constantly decreasing because more and more people are emigrating and the employers, whatever they are, foreign and local, have to put up with the availability of leftover staff when they came to this country to do business and make profits through the low wages of their employees.

Posting the same ad over and over again, going through long interviews and exams, thinking you'll ever find the perfect candidate for a position with thousands of requirements, seems pointless.
When I applied, the ad was viewed by about 800 people. The current, third ad has had 200 views. Including people like me who are familiar with it but opened it out of curiosity to see if there were any new or changed requirements or anything.

Oh, well, I guess I went too long with the text again and will continue the story in the next post. 😅 Therefore, this post will be called a prelude, an introduction to the experiment.

steem.jpgSoul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.

Personally, I am a sensitive soul with a strong sense of justice.
Traveling and photography are my greatest passions.
Sounds trivial to you?
No, it's not trivial. Because I still love to travel to not so famous destinations.🗺️
Of course, the current situation does not allow me to do this, but I still find a way to satisfy my hunger for knowledge, new places, beauty and art.
Sometimes you can find the most amazing things even in the backyard of your house.😊🧐🧭|

Are you sure that's the legitimate job ad? In my country, some job seekers circulate fake job ads just to get an idea of where they stand in the market by checking up on applicants' resumes and portfolios. I hope that's not the case at your end because it would be ridiculous to go this far (talking about interviews and 3-day tests).

I am curious about the experiment...

Gosh 🤦‍♀️ no, that was not the case. I saw a picture of this one manager beforehand on the company website. And the HR manager - I found her LinkedIn profile. The exam contained examples and papers from their work, so there's no way it was all rigged. There are many scams in this country, but most, at least in my experience, are perpetrated by employers, not job seekers.
As for the experiment... I don't know how interesting it will be to the audience. It was interesting for me, to confirm my opinion, my feelings, my position... although it was not positive. Well, in the next post. 🙂

It's all somehow strange and suspicious 🙄. However, I've met companies with such high employee turnover that their ads almost never disappear.

Yes, I know of many of those too. But this one doesn't look like it. I have received some information about it from them themselves, but at the moment it all seems half-baked and false to me. I don't believe anything I've been told. That's why everything is really strange. But not uniquely strange. Just a small part of all the similar experiences I've had since trying to find a job.😕

Now you're talking.
You've got a hold of "The Voice."

What do you mean? 🙂

A writer's "voice" when it's ready, it stays.
