New Steemit Feature Announced: "Trending 30 Days" Category!

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

Steemit will introduce a new Trending 30 Days category for Posts that are upvoted after their initial payout (12 hours)!

Background

You might have noticed that posts which are several days old are suddenly Trending category. One of the most famous is the Cheetah post which is already a week old.

The reason for this is the recent hardfork which introduced among other things two new features:

  • Faster payouts in a 12 hour cycle
  • Posts can still be upvoted for 30 days after their initial payout

This leads to an anomaly that older posts which have accumulated a large sum in the 30 days after their payout will show up in the Trending feed. Since the second payout happens only in a month time a successful article occupies the Trending Category for up to a month.

New Feature: Trending for 30 Days Category

After opening a bug on this issue the Devs responded promptly with the delivery of a new feature:

We are aware of this and working on splitting new trending from trending 30 days.

This new category will contain all those top upvoted posts after their initial payout (12 hours). This will give the Trending category the fluctuation it needs while still giving slower articles a chance.

Conclusion

It is great to see such a quick response from the Devs on this issue! That gives me confidence that this project is being taken care of in the right way. The code has already been submitted if you are interested then you can read the commit here.
