Luke Skywalker, The great hero of the rebellion, the Jedi Knight who has saved the galaxy from the empire.

Today I will be discussing the one question everyone had since Star Wars Episode VII, what exactly happened to Luke since Star Wars Episode VI.

The Original trilogy

We all know Luke Skywalker as the boy from Tatooine, the farm boy living at his Uncle Owen. He became the apprentice of Obi-wan after his family was killed by the Sand people and ultimately became a Jedi. Luke was a excellent pilot when it came to courage he never backed down. He had the dream to become a Jedi like his farther before him. He was a true leader. The last time we saw Luke in Episode VI he was with Han Solo and Princess Leia celebrating the victory of Rebellion over the Empire. We saw Luke at peace with his friends staring at the force ghost of Obi-wan, Yoda and Anakin Skywalker. The hero had restored balance to the force and had freed the galaxy of the Sith and the Dark side of the force.

The Sequel trilogy

In the progression of the Force awakens we heard Luke's name said a lot through the course of the movie, but never see him in person. He was referred to as a legend and the Jedi as a myth. When we finally see Luke and embrace him in the Last Jedi we noticed he was no longer the Luke we came to love. He was no longer the hero which most of us grew up idolizing, he was a broken old man scared of himself and scared of the force. He abandoned his teachings and he exiled himself from the galaxy. This was no longer the hero we saw in Episode VI.

What we need From Lucas Films and Disney:

I will be straight forward. We need a explanation as to why our hero was no longer the person we knew. Yes, people change and we see this in lots of movies as character evolution or development. I feel this was to big of a change not to be featured on screen. There had to be a series of events, we heard from Luke in the last Jedi that he felt responsible for the extinction of the new Jedi order and we saw he was willing to sacrifice one learner (Ben Solo) for the sole purpose of feeling the threat of darkness growing in Ben. Luke did not go through with this plan, but there had to be a more deeper reason for Luke's actions.

I feel that a good reason would have been that in the search of ancient Jedi Artifacts Luke had acquired an old sith holocron and the darkness that it possessed had corrupted him slowly. Ben saw this and when he pointed this out, Luke realized this to be true and decided to place the holocorn in the Jedi order in his quarters for himself to protect. Ben then started sneaking into Luke's room intrigued by this power and knowledge and wanted to learn from the holocron in order to become a stronger Jedi. This linked Ben to the dark side which Snoke felt and started manipulating Ben until the fateful day when Luke decided to take this matter into his own hands. (My own fan fiction)

This was fan fiction which I thought would be a great explanation for what happened to Luke in between Episode VI and VII. I feel there is such great stories of the younger Luke to tell and it would be a shame if these stories was not told. I would like to see an actor like Sebastian Stan take up the role to explain to the viewers what exactly happened to Luke. This idea I feel has a lot of unexplored potential and really hope we can see this part of the cannon explained.
