NFL Referees Ruining Pro Football.

in #sportstalk5 years ago (edited)

Don’t you just hate it when NFL refs get a call wrong so bad at the end of the game that it ends up costing your favorite team a win? Well that has happened to my Denver Broncos TWICE in the first 5 weeks of the season and helped us off to a slow 1-4 start.

What is roughing no the passer you ask? Well who knows at this point because flags are litteraly being thrown several times a game if you even look at a quarterback with the stink eye!

The basic rule says a few things about roughing the passer:

#1 Do not touch the QB anywhere on the helmet. This means your little pinky finger can’t even graze his face mask even if one of the blocking lineman push you into him.

#2 Do not ever hit a QB below the waist, even if your tripped by a lineman during the play.

#3 Do not land on the QB with your entire body weight after you made a legal hit for the sack.

#4 Do not make fun of the QB’s mother in law.

This call actually cost the Kansas City Chiefs a shot at hoisting their very first Lombardi Trophy. Brady got this pass off with no issues but his face mask was barely touched and it resulted in a new set of downs and 15 penalty yards.

This phantom call cost the Broncos a win in week 2 win only :31 on the clock and the lead. Bradley Chubb did nothing wrong on this play but the red threw a flag and that 15 yards really hurt because two plays later the Bears kicked the ga,e winner and broke out hearts.

This call didn’t cost the Raiders the game but it was flagged just because the defensive player landed on top of Derrick Carr after this totally legal hit. I mean stop the madness NFL!

Look the NFL game is brutal and people (fans) want to see big collisions during the game. If we wanted to see soft rules and weak hits it would be much easier and cheaper to hit up a Friday night high school football game.

Theses are the modern day gladiators and blood thirsty fans want nothing more than to see pretty boy quarterbacks with a face full of mud and grass. I understand how valuable QB’S......today more than ever with the new rule changes and the games propensity for 350 yd 3 TD passing attacks.....but come on man, I paid huge money and I wanna see crunching hits that squirts the ball loose.

With the rules today, guys like Montana, Elway, Marino could have played until they were 60 I think.

I understand your frustration and I would agree to a point that refereeing is sometimes a problem when if comes to bad or missed calls.

That said, I think the bigger issue is the rules themselves and the team owners who change them... EVERY YEAR.

Every year the team owners meetup to discuss rule changes and every year there are a few team owners that are mad because their team was 'cheated' due to a rule or lack of a rule. This is how we got Aaron Rodgers rule, that says a player can't land on the QB which you referenced.

They always claim to make these rule changes for 'safety' but it's clearly only about money and winning (which translates to more money). Having Aaron Rodgers injured cost the team money and wins.

In my opinion, there are just too many rules and reasons to throw a penalty flag. The game has become too confusing for referees to keep up with. They're told every year to focus on one issue more which leaves other penalties to be missed.

You can find a penalty occurrence on EVERY play if you look hard enough. Start with the offensive and defensive lines... Every play someone is getting away with a hold, but the game would be even worse if the refs threw a flag on every play.

Both the game and fans would benefit from simplifying some rules. They made progress with the catch rule as they eliminated the movement of the ball point and the 'going to the ground' part.

I think that's the right way to fix the game. Simplify where possible and eliminate rules where possible. Stop adding more rules on top.

Sadly the game has become more about debating a play (was that a penalty or wasn't it?) rather than watching the players ACTUALLY PLAY.

Anyway, just my two cents! Believe me, I feel your frustration as do a lot of fans!

Great response....thanks for taking the time!

Every rule change is intended to generate more offense. What is wrong with a well played game that results in a 13 - 10 score. They have done much the same with baseball. They wanted more offense, so they juiced the ball.

With all of the rule changes and other nonsense that the owners agree to, it is tough for me to validate many of these new records that continue to smash the ones set back in the day.
I guess you could say I'm old school and these constant rule changes are deteriorating a game I have loved since middle school.

Agreed man. It’s gotten soft.

@broncnutz I Love You Buddy but I just can No Longer Give the NFL any of my Valuable Time. I would much rather Watch College Football if I am even going to watch a Game.......

It's probably time to hire some CFL referees.

I watching some matches and looking this most of time NFL refs called wrong, thats why sometimes my favourite team was lost,
Its a so pathetic for me.
Thanks sir @broncnutz for checking this crazy fault.

I'm a Lions fan so you are preaching to the choir man! It's the story of our lives. That KC game was a total farce. The refs will do anything to keep us as far away from the playoffs as possible.
