Hace unos días, el tiempo amaneció frío y nublado, así que me preparé un chocolate caliente y me senté frente a la pc. No habían transcurrido ni 10 minutos cuando un ruido cerca de la ventana llamó mi atención. En una rama de un árbol, que está al lado del apartamento, se había posado una guacamaya.
No era la primera vez que pasaba, ni sería la última. La observé por un rato y pensé que sería genial compartir esto con otras personas. Por eso decidí dedicarles este post.
English translation: A few days ago, the weather was cold and the sky was cloudy, so I made hot chocolate and sat in front of my PC. Less than 10 minutes later, a noise near my window drew my attention. A macaw was resting on a tree branch, next to my apartment.
It wasn’t the first time it happened, nor would it be the last. I watched it for a while and thought it would be great to share this with others. That’s why I decided to make this post about them.
En mi infancia, solía ir a Caracas en las vacaciones a visitar a mi familia. En esa época nunca me percaté de la presencia de estas coloridas aves. No fue hasta que me mudé a la Capital para estudiar en la universidad que las pude observar. Posadas en palmeras o árboles altos, pasando cerca de las ventanas de las aulas universitarias, en los balcones de varios edificios, sobrevolando el cielo caraqueño,…
Nunca me hubiera imaginado ver esta clase de aves en una ciudad tan bulliciosa y agitada como Caracas, pero lo cierto es que en este lugar hay una gran variedad de especies de pájaros, muy pintorescos, que nos deleitan con su colorido y su canto. Cristofués, guacamayas, garzas, loros, periquitos, guacharacas, querrequerres, colibríes y muchos más.
In my childhood, I used to go to Caracas on vacation to visit my family. At that time, I never noticed the presence of those colorful birds. It wasn’t until I moved to the capital to study at the university that I could observe them. Posed on palm trees or tall ones, passing near the classroom’s windows at the university, standing on the balconies of several buildings, flying over the city sky…
I would never have imagined finding this kind of birds in such a bustling and hectic city as Caracas, but the truth is that there is a great variety of picturesque bird species in this place. Birds that delight us with their colors and their songlike tweeting. Great kiskadees, macaws, herons, parrots, parakeets, chachalacas, green jays, hummingbirds, and many others.

Con su colorido azul y amarillo, las hermosas guacamayas alegran las mañanas y tardes de los caraqueños, y estos a su vez les dejan comida en los balcones o en las jardineras de sus apartamentos como agradecimiento. Incluso se han creado grupos de cuidado y protección de las guacamayas de la ciudad. Definitivamente, estas exóticas aves no fueron hechas para estar en algún zoológico o para ser enjauladas, nacieron para colorear los cielos mientras vuelan libres.

With their colorful blue and yellow, the beautiful macaws brighten the mornings and afternoons of the people of Caracas, and, as a manner of thanks, the people leave food on their balconies to feed these wonderful birds. Support groups have been created to watch and protect the macaws in the city. Definitely, these exotic birds weren’t made to live in zoos or to stay in cages; they were born to paint the skies while flying free.
