Flat Earth is a real theory...

...and I'm not going to say it is wrong. But it's wrong.

I come across these crackpot theories all the time. So why not create a special section where I can pick a conspiracy theory or just some crazy idea doing the rounds and write about it? It should give me enough fodder for a few months (or years). There really are some crazy people out there!

So today in my new topic I like to call, "Say What????", I present to you the Flat Earth Theory.

No, you have not time traveled back to the Dark Ages. There are actually people alive today that completely believe that the Earth is not a big round sphere floating in space, but actually a flat disc. There's even an organisation for this called The Flat Earth Society. And the support for this Theory is bigger than you might think.

Boston Celtics star player Kyrie Irving is probably the best known proponent of this theory. He has even convinced New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith that he might be on to something. So we have celebrities believing and supporting this idea. And they have the money to fund the "research" that is being done to prove their theory. I just wonder how many young minds they are converting to their cause, purely due to their celebrity status.

In round about January of this year (2018) I heard about a Flat-Earther called Mike Hughes who was building a steam powered rocket-ship that he would then board and ride up into the atmosphere to definitively prove with pictures that the Earth is indeed flat. The whole project was being crowd-funded through Kickstarter with our friend Kyrie Irving the main contributor.

Guess nobody convinced to just strap a camera to a high-altitude balloon. This however shows just how paranoid these people are. They believe they are being lied to (though I can't think of any reason why the Government would lie about this), and believe that if they don't see it with their own eyes, that the Government / Illuminati / Free Masons / AnyOtherSecretOrganisation will somehow alter the evidence.

The most recent attempt by Hughes was on 3 February 2018. And surprise, surprise it was a failure. He did say that he might try again in the next few days but that he had to be in court as he was suing a number of Californian officials, including the governor, Jerry Brown. You know, cause they are obviously hampering his pursuit of the truth.

I decided to end this post with an awesome video clips. The first is by Giles Academy students in Old Leake, England. They launched their own balloon with a iPhone strapped to it. The video clip shows the footage captured by the iPhone camera.

And if you think they are unique in their experiment, then you are mistaken. Here's a video from a Father and his 7-year Son team who also sent an iPhone up using a balloon, launched from Newburg, New York back in 2010.

Have a look Mike. There are better things to use that money for than to build a rocket....

I have some crazy friends that think the earth is flat too, I just can't comprehend how they come to this conclusion!!!

I tend to switch off when they try to talk to me about it.

Switching off is a good strategy. There is definitely no point in trying to argue with them.

I don't understand how these people believe that the earth is flat despite overwhelming evidence and the fact that many people, even back in the middle ages, know or think the earth is flat.

I also don't know why they're spending money to prove their point. All of their attempts have thus far fallen flat on their faces and end up wasting their money when it could be used for something else.

Oh well, at least someone can get a chuckle.

Brilliant piece mate...the Humber Bridge in Hull UK was the worlds longest single span suspension bridge. The 2 main supports, a mile and a half apart are further away from each other at their top as they are from the bottom due to the curvature of the earth....

Wow. Thanks for that interesting fact. The thing is with these kind of people, they would find some way to prove that clear evidence like the bridge is wrong and come up with an alternative explanation.

Glad you liked the post.

These guys crack me up. We had a guy, who is a solid Flat-Earther, who worked with us a while back. The reason for nobody ever "finding" the edge of the planet was my absolute favorite (the world governments patrol the edge and make the people, who manage to get there, to keep quiet about it).

They must have some pretty impressive techniques to make so many people keep quiet! Maybe the Men in Black do exist after all!

Theory? No. Conjecture or hypothesis? Sure.
