Do programmers have some coding secrets that are only learnt by experience?

in #programming6 years ago

I have 3 secrets which allowed me to write more than 1 million lines of code by the age of 20 and created my first successful business - Iris:

1 line per day, every day
Write first, Refactor later
Never interrupt yourself with other activities while coding

and Here are my reasons behind them

1 line per day, every day

When you tell yourself just 1 line, you write 2, then you decide to write 10, then as the time pass you are at around 100 lines and you are in a flow state.

When you enter a flow state you can code for hours and you produce great work.

Write first, Refactor later

Same as the above. If you think too much about what to write you will not even start and you will spend hours searching Google or browsing StackOverflow for a solution which is a lot of wasted time.

Never interrupt yourself with other activities while coding

If you check your e-mail you exit your flow state and it’s really hard to get it back.

The end result is a lot of wasted time.

Basically, start small and don’t waste your time.
