BEHIND THE SMILE

She always looks picture perfect.
Full eyes filled with wells of light.
Her mouth curls in all the perfect angles,
as she blesses the world with her smile.

Sharing warmth and love to the cold and broken,
Bringing brightness to folks in the dark,
Her smile is the beat to countless hearts.
Her voice - the music to many ears.

Ladies admire her, men respect her.
A complete perfection, there's nothing more to ask.
But, deep down in her is a woman so different.
Strikingly contrasting to the girl on the surface.

Darkness begins where the lights end in her eyes.
Eyes that water her pillows every night.
Nights that are filled with pain and torment.
Torments from the unspeakable hurts she's been through.
Hurts that no one can understand or imagine.

And each day as she steps out to be a blessing,
her heart screams for help, but her lips smile.
No one looks behind the smile, so her soul forever waits.
Hoping the fruit of her deeds will one day heal her and meet her needs.
