THE POET'S NIGHTMARES

Nightmares are dreams that enact horror and fear. These elements are obvious in this poem in the images of mountains of thick dust, machines meant to cut the antennae, kangaroos and the jackals taking counsel, dogs emerging and the machines clamping. Each of these metaphor represents the terrific experiences that writers, especially in military and undemocratic systems, pass through.
The Only ray of hope in the poem is that none of these forces could seize the poetic diction of the poet. The poetic diction here represents the creative force, the intellectual power and the productive skills which writers are endowed with.

Thousands of gold lines
Gather mountains of thick dust
In the poet's study

The poet's antennae stretch long
To catch the thirsty bands
Of mammoth audience.
But the machine man emerges
With machines to cut the antenna.
Sharply, the poet withdraws into the shell.

The poet's dreams are beclouded
By thick darkness swallowing
The thin lines scribbled at moonlight.

The kangaroos and the jackals
Gather to counsel on the poet's creations.
They are wounded by the metaphors
Which cut their conscience like
The sharp stumps in the forest.

The dogs emerge and sieze the
Poetic license but could not seize
The poetic diction.
Yet the onomatopoeia of the
Clamping machine deafens the ears of
The audience as they wait
For the poet's funeral.
