But a walk in the trees has me crazy for coconuts heights.

As the old adage goes, feed a girl for a lifetime! You can literally live off coconuts alone, or at least I can. I am elated to find a street vendor anywhere masterfully machete-ing fresh green coconuts into the nectar of life and then splitting them open to reveal the jelly interior that you scrape out with a piece of the hull.
Today in gorgeous Whisper Bay on Mayreau Island, I was looking to spread the love to all the beach shacks in my search for coconuts and a friendly owner patiently listened to my exclamation of want and nearness and suggested I learn to get my own. He generously lent me Glenmore for instruction. He showed me the ascension technique, brought down 6 “water nuts” and then showed us the variance in color and a machete free opening technique of basically banging them against a tree and then shredding the interior husks to get to the the core.

Best coconut day ever! Tomorrow’s goals are to get my own. I climbed half way up one today in a bikini and feared the descent because Glenmore slid down fire pole style in jeans. Tomorrow I’ll get further. Super exciting knowledge for Island life today!
