Moths: Common Heath

The common heath (Ematurga atomaria), gewone heispanner in Dutch, has a wingspan of 25 to 35mm (1 to 1.4") and is found in Europe and east to Siberia.

In The Netherlands, they fly in two generations from April to August and are almost always found on heather, where they blend in very well:


Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO200, f8, 1/250s

Not so well on green heather, though:


Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/200s
