Night activities - Imprinted by LightCaptured

in #photography12 days ago

I didn't sleep well last night.

Nope, it wasn't love-making-activities, unfortunately :D

It wasn't related to photography either.

Our friends, the martens, paid us a visit and this time it wasn't only rat hunting and fallen fruit picking in the yard. Last night, they decided they will be having jogging exercises... on our roof.

Last week I trimmed some of the branches of the trees around the house as I was thinking they jump on the roof from those branches.

I was so wrong! :)

A couple of nights after the trimming of those branches, I heard two of those little bullies knocking on the roof with their tiny feet. I got a light torch and went to check them out. Then I made the discovery...

... they use the gutter downpipes to get to the roof!

Now I am stuck at finding a solution to stop that from happening again.

  • I don't want to remove the downpipes.
  • I would like to avoid using traps.
  • I can't use ultrasonic devices as that would chase away our domesticated cats too.

I am thinking of using some kind of one-way valve inside the downpipes but I am pretty sure during heavy rains that would cause problems...

Now, apart from all that saga, night could be quite pleasurable, no? :)

Apart from these love-making-activities, I guess Photography could be one of those, at least one of mine :)))

Here is what I mean by that...

Если эти хитрые бандиты используют водосточные трубы ...
Если они пробираются внутри труб, то достаточно перекрыть выходы труб стальной сеткой, например, сеткой рабица. Это не помешает воде, но не пустит зверьков внутрь))

This is a possible solution, a vertical PVC backflow valve, like this one: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Valve-Backflow-Diameter-Vertical-Non-Return/dp/B01647KG74
Here comes another detail, as these are generally purposed for drainage and I will be placing them outside and they are plastic, how long before the summer sun and heat, and then ice in winter destroy them...

Thanks so much for this colorful support! Have an awesome day! :)

I was thinking of that but then I will have to be doing regular check ups as there are many trees around that bring many leaves on the roof and during rains they could pile up and block the pipes, probably they will all collapse if the water stays inside...

тогда можно сделать дополнительную сетку-фильтр для листьев сверху трубы и они не будут попадать внутрь)

Indeed. I was going into that direction, if I can make a solid steel-net box to block that on the roof, then I may not even need any blockage on the bottom part. Hopefully those bullies don't block inside :))) Any of those will still need to be cleaned on a regular basis though, especially in the autumn.

Martens... there are so many legends about these creatures that I know from my childhood. When we were small or a little older, my friends and I had an experience with one such, an extremely smart and intelligent animal. And the legends handed down by folklore about them are mythical, a little scary even. I think they are very traditional animals for the country (rural areas), but their appearance in a house is quite scary because getting rid of them is not easy.
I hope they don't do much damage to your house! I know they damage cars too. But it's all a matter of luck maybe.🍀🤞🐾

Yes, they are so cute, LMAO. So far, I haven't found any damage and I think they do great work by cleaning the garden, killing some nasty rodents too.
You are right, it seems they are very intelligent, I'd say even more intelligent than cats.
