Walk in the Woods| Connecting with Nature

in #photography6 years ago

Curious to see what I would see, I went for a walk in the woods two days ago.

Today I carry my camera with expectations to capture something of interest. At other times I carry a sketch pad and do field drawings as a way of journaling.

Today in the woods I let go of expectations of seeing a mountain lion. The thought of sighting of one always surfaces during these walks. Today’s walk will lack the excitement of a mountain lion, but brings a quiet rejuvenating experience of being alone connecting with nature.

Birds calling from distant trees reach me though the still air.

Here the Aspens densely packed grow tall and thin

The leaves of the Quaking Aspen trees, fallen from their branches, once green, then yellow, now dark and brown rest quietly on the ground.
Mold forms on the leaves as the last stages of return begin the decomposition process providing nutrients for life on and below the ground.

Nature makes use of dead or dying trees. Often providing a home for cavity nesting birds, an occasional squirrel and very often insects.

Sharing the woods with the Aspens are Ponderosa Pines and capturing my interest are the patterns and textures of their tree bark.

Subdued fall colors surround me as I walk along silently stepping on the soft cushion of leaves but flashes of bright colors from Lichen grab my attention.

Soon again to these woods I will return: there is more to explore.

Looking down as I walk away I see white berries reminding me that winter is coming.
