I have a few reasons why I regard Brave New World as a better novel than 1984.

Not the least of which is that, when I describe 1984 to people who haven't read it, they all find the concept horrifying.

When I describe Brave New World, it's actually pretty common that people think that it sounds awesome.

The brilliance of Brave New World is that it shows us a world in which everybody is happy while nobody is free.

The person with agency, and the ability to see the lack of liberty, finds the world to be impossible to live in.

Yeah, a lot of us would be happy to be programed to be happy, and fed drugs that make us happy, and have a life that's planned by other people.

That's why cults get members.

That's the brilliance of Brave New World.

It's the understanding of why authoritarianism is so attractive.
