Your Roomba Floor Cleaner is Secretly Spying on Your House

in #news7 years ago

Who would have thought that the harmless looking (sometimes cute) Roomba floor cleaner could be silently noting down the dimensions and floor plan of your house? Though this sounds insanely far-fetched, it is the reality that we need to face now. iRobot, the company that makes these Roombas has been secretly collecting a wealth of information of our houses over the years.

The information might be as little as the dirt at the corners of your house, to as much as physical dimensions of furniture, rooms and vital systems inside the house. In this age of big data and machine learning, companies understand that such data could be worth millions of dollars. iRobot is now planning to sell all this information to tech giants like Apple, Amazon and Alphabet.

The big As could use tertiary supporting devices like Alexa or Echo to gain more information about your daily life activities and create a framework for creating a privacy nightmare. More on this in here - Roomba Vacuum Maker iRobot Betting Big On The 'Smart' Home
