Forgetting Things? It could be short term memory loss...

in #life7 years ago

Let's start off with some humor or may be it's something serious!!

Here, the comic guy is suffering from short term memory loss, it's not a disease but it's something to worry about for sure especially when you forget something important. Imagine, your boss assigns you an important task because he thinks that you are the most competent of all but due short term memory loss you forget to deliver project on time. Will you be ashamed of it? I will be for sure!

Short term memory loss is sometimes a loss but sometimes is a gain in a disguised way. Imagine, you have been betrayed lately and you are going through an unimaginable pain right now but due to your short term memory loss issue you cannot remember much of your memories with your ex. Isn't it a blessing in a disguised way! I am sure it is!

"The greatest gift is the ability to forget - to forget the bad things and focus on the good. Joe Biden"

What is a short-term memory loss?

A person experiencing short-term memory loss, can remember incidents from 20 years ago but is fuzzy on the details of things that happened 20 minutes prior.

"We forget all too soon the things we thought we could never forget. Joan Didion"

It's normal for human beings to forget. For example, most of us walk into the kitchen and once we get there we forget what we wanted?

Why is it caused?

Short-term memory loss may b caused due to some medical conditions, excess medications, injuries or other outside influences. Treatment options depend on what caused the loss.

Possible culprits include: antidepressants, antihistamines, anti-anxiety medications, muscle relaxants, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, and pain medications given after surgery.

Alcohol, tobacco, or drug use. Excessive alcohol use has long been recognized as a cause of memory loss.

How to Improve short-term memory

For a better short-term memory it is advised to use mnemonics. Mnemonics is the technique of attaching a word, phrase or image to an object. One example of a mnemonic is the trick to remember how many days are in a month. “Thirty days hath September, April, June and November …” You can also use the trick to remember things such as a name, such as "Rob wore a red shirt."

Or you may also do the objects trick. Ask someone to put a number of objects out on a table. Give yourself 30 seconds to memorize them. Then take the objects away and try to write down as many as you can in 30 seconds.

Doing activities that engage your brain, such as Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and reading in general can also help improve your memory.

So, dear fellows, in life we often forget things and move in with the fact that we are humans and it's natural for us to forget and may be it's good for us too! But forget the important thing in life is not at all advised, please take sometime to list down the important things related to your family and friends e.g. their birthdays, important days etc and see how life changes just by remembering such small details. Life is a one time gift of God which is to be lived with all of our imperfections!

Focus on positivity and ignore the rest and hope for the best!

When we look at the flowers, we suddenly forget so many important things. We forget that all flowers die. We forget that winter will come again. We forget that nothing really endures and that, like the flowers that die at the end of the growing season, we'll join them in the cold ground. Jonathan Maberry
