Mountaineering is a magnificent experience and more than that it is a passion, a way of life where men and women who for a long time have been committed to the mountains and their people. Where the mountains see them much more than the rugosity of the earth, they are the sum of their majesty, their beauty and the feeling that has been granted to them by all the mountaineers and mountaineers, a feeling that is born of the passion for the summits and the freedom that the excursions originate.

The mountains are sacred temples where man meets himself and with the most superb nature, which shows us unparalleled glimpses. Mountains are fundamental for life and spirit, so we must take care of them for later generations.

In this post I want to tell you about one of my favorite journeys, "the crossing of the Nevados to Pico Bolívar." 🌄 For many years I have practiced mountaineering as a method of escape from the routine and stress of everyday life.

Village of the Nevados.

Then I will tell how was the course of this tour, the departure was made from the city of Merida where we went to a town called the Nevados where the adventure begins, on day 1 is taken from the village a 4x4 truck that moved us to the Higher in the village where the road ends, when we reach that point we camp the first day to eat and rest and so next day continue with the tour, after spending the night in that place the next day we get up at 5 am and we started walking for 7 hours until we reached the base of El Toro peak. While the journey of the first day was made, the cold and fatigue were part of the exploration but that did not stop us, the mixture of adventure and the desire for knowledge prompted us to continue to the top .

the next day we resume our journey with the sporting desire to achieve our goal. Despite the obstacles encountered that prevented reaching our goal; With technique, perseverance and effort we managed to overcome the obstacles and reach the peak of the peak of El Gallo peak, finding us at 4835 meters of altitude, culminating that day by setting up a high altitude camp; which is the one that we ride on sites used during the ascent to a mountain, generally at an intermediate point between the top and the base.

Height camp.

On the fourth day with our destination over our heads we ascended by means of a rope and advancing to the summit, after several hours of hard work we were able to conquer and make summit at the top of Pico Bolívar at 5010 masl, simply touching the void and feeling a sublime sensation of being closer to the sky than to the earth and having around us colossal masses of ice, sharp edges on the edge of abysses, formidable dimensions capable of overflowing the imagination. Without a doubt one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

What is common in all these experiences, is that up there you get a feeling of freedom that few other places can offer. In situations like those that are lived on the way to the top of a high mountain you discover what it means to have life in your own hands, have lucidity and courage in important moments in which you decide everything.

Those who dare to accept their challenge know that these mountains constitute a foreign kingdom, rather than being part of the planet they belong to a mysterious universe, almost a world within our world. Where extraordinary experiences are experienced, good or bad but always extraordinary.
