Yoga guru Swami Ramdev plans for Guinness World Records in Kota, Rajasthan on the International Yoga Day on Thursday while thousands of his Bharat Swabhiman volunteers from Uttarakhand and Haryana would participate in the mega Yoga show on FRI grounds in Dehradun to be attended by the Prime Minister. His followers have remained engaged in preparing themselves for the show for the past many days.

On the International Yoga Day held last year, Patanjali had gone into the Guinness Book of World Records in many categories for the performance of its volunteers in Ahmedabad. They included the world record of the longest Yoga Marathon running for 51 hours, the longest Sheershasan by three Patanjali Yog Peeth volunteers- Jaipal, Gopal Dangi and Mohan Shankar Rao Thakrey- in a group performance for 3 hours 33 minutes and 33 seconds at a stretch besides the longest performance of Sheersh Padmasana by Patanjali’s Yoga guru Ravi Vyom Shankar Jha. This aside, in Surya Namaskar (below 18 years category) Patanjali Yoga guru Chandramohan Negi had performed it 4,500 times in eight hours and in the women category of the same, Patanjali Yoga teacher Monica Nishad had performed the same for 3124 times. In pushups too Patanjali had left its mark during the event in Gujarat.

“I am practising hard to perform 50 rounds of 12 poses of Surya Namaskar in 10 minutes. I have accomplished the 11- minute target and now I hope to make a new 10- minute record too,” said Yogacharya Satyawan who has been teaching Yoga for the past 10 years. Many such Yoga teachers and trainees are participating in the International Yoga Day programmes.

Speaking to The Pioneer just before leaving for Kota, Acharya Balkrishna of Patanjali Yog Peeth said, “We are all geared up for the International Yoga Day. This time too, many world records would be made at the camp in Rajasthan. Thousands of volunteers are working round the clock in Dehradun for the FRI event as well. The whole country is in the Yoga mode now.”

The national in-charge of Bharat Swabhiman Rakesh Mittal said, “Our volunteers have worked hard to make the event in Dehradun a memorable one. They have gathered in Dehradun from all the districts of the state. They are impatiently waiting to participate in Yoga with the Prime Minister.”

However, on the flip side, many associated with industry were annoyed over the state government cancelling hundreds of passes for the SIIDCUL Industrial Association. While the nodal officers were on their toes distributing the passes among the participants on Wednesday the official whatsapp group of the district administration kept flashing messages of the process of issuing passes being stopped with the sector capacity being fulfilled. “Things are disturbing,” said Abhishek Kumar Chauhan, a nodal officer.

The irked officers from SIIDCUL industrial area wondered why there was such a fuss over filling of forms and submission of documents for verification. “It is ridiculous that the state machinery failed to handle the rush,” said one of them. It is learnt that just 98 e-passes of Hindustan Lever have been approved by the Government out of 205 listed names. “This is unfortunate,” said an officer of the company.
