Parents Choosing their Children's Career is still an issue in Nigeria

in #inspiration7 years ago

"I will not have children who are not respected in the society"

Fathers and mothers can say funny things though. It's as though they own their children the same way they own a cup or a car.

Like what they want for that car is that it must be sprayed black. And the car can't argue but allow it's lifeless self to be made black! That's the difference between the car and the child.

The child has a mind, a consciousness, a soul and his or her own unique existence. They deserve the right to decide what they want and what happens to them. It's easier to say they're young and don't know what's good for them but at least they know what they like.

Every child has a picture of the future he or she wants to be painted in their minds. They want that future and they're ready to work towards it because it's what they believe deep down is going to make them happy. We're all chasing happiness in this life. Why deny them their route to happiness because it's not the route you prefer?

The child is your responsibility but... Is it your right to decide his or her fate? You're a mere human. God has a purpose, not DADDY or MUMMY has a purpose. Guide and direct your child accordingly. Don't put a leash on their neck and drag them,

"You must be a doctor"

"You will be an engineer when you grow up"

"I want you to study law at the university"

"Make sure you study hard and be a pilot. I like how they dress, it'll look good on you, my son."

Why not, "Believe in yourself and you can achieve anything you want"?

Why not, "Stand up and aim for your goals. You can do it, I believe in you."?

Why not, "Whatever you want to be, you have our full support. We are your biggest fans"?

I hope this aligns some parents. Share with a Papa and Mama you know. This is from Uwemedimo Usa and I hope to leave the world a better place than I met it.

Wooow, I agree with your post and is not only Nigeria that this is happening but all over the world. To be honest I think is the right thing for every parent to do but Parents are suppose to be guardians not career chosers. God helps us all

@jacksonoskele I totally agree, it's a world wide problem. It's kind of hard for parents to figure out where their control ends and their child's freedom begins.

I agree, I have friends who have suffered many years following their parents wishes... as if they have ignored that they are an individual too.

Yes @ellyn-suraya, I've seen this happen to someone very close to me. What should they do? Rebel against the parents?

I am always thankful for my parents. They would support you to become a sweeper if that is your dream.

All parents should know that if you raise a child right, they will always choose right. And that your dream is not their dream.

This is a wonderful post.

Thank you very much @mutitum

This is informative and i pray new generation parents help encourage their children and not enforcing courses on them.

Yes dear. I hope this makes the impact I want.
