Hello, fellow travelers of this beautiful community!

I hope everything is going well. Today, I want to share some photos I took last week when, for the first time, I went on a trekking route in a truly historic place, unfortunately the scene of a terrible war that took place between 1915 and 1918, between the Austro-Hungarian army and the Italian army, called the Great War.

I explored and walked this historic and naturalistic trail located in the Terragnolo Valley, in Trentino.
I think this is one of the most evocative routes dedicated to the Great War, which not only takes you back in time but also gives you the opportunity to admire some beautiful natural landscapes.

Basically, I did the entire route up to the top of the mountain, and this path you see was recreated exactly where the trenches once were, which were dug during World War I by the Austro-Hungarians, who used them to defend themselves from the enemy. The fascinating thing about this route is that it winds right through these trenches, and you can really see the military structure. In some places, the path even goes inside some tunnels because the trenches were also built within the rock, to protect themselves from the cold.

It's always very evocative to visit these places, but they are also very sad places because they make you realize how terrible war is. Unfortunately, in this area where I walked, many young people undoubtedly lost their lives, and it's always a tragic thing when someone young dies.
From a landscape perspective, I was left speechless during my walk. You can truly admire some beautiful landscapes of this wonderful valley, and you can even see the Pasubio Massif, where unfortunately, fierce battles took place, resulting in many casualties.
Fortunately, peace and tranquility now reign here, and nature is the only protagonist in these moments in this place.

To give you some information, the "Forra del Lupo" trail, as this trekking route is called, is about 5 km long with an elevation gain of about 400 meters. You definitely need to be somewhat trained to complete this route; it’s not for the inexperienced, and I wouldn’t recommend it for families with children, as there are some points that are really difficult to navigate.

Surely, I can say that it is a route suitable for those who love both nature and history, a way to better understand this region, Trentino-Alto Adige, which unfortunately was the site of tragic events in the past. If you're lucky enough, you might encounter some wildlife along the way, but you should be cautious about encountering bears, which are now quite numerous in these parts. Thanks for reading, see you in my next post!

Saludos.

What beautiful words you wrote, my friend! 🌄 It's true, war leaves only broken hearts and broken lands, without real winners. But today, looking at the images of the Valle di Terragnolo, we can breathe the peace that those mountains guard with so much love. The high peaks, once the scene of battles, now offer only nature's embraces and silences full of memories.
