A large area of delayed flights at Tianjin Airport caused by mysterious flying objects has attracted wide attention. Official information about the incident has been limited, and online reports of sightings have been hard to discern. There is no single theory that fully explains what happened.

Let's start by recap what happened. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, a number of luminous objects appeared over Tianjin Airport and even invaded the runway. This prevented planes from taking off, and those trying to land had to divert to other airports, causing widespread flight delays.

The initial explanation was that someone was illegally flying a drone in a restricted area of the airport. But soon after, DJI Technology, the world's largest drone manufacturer, came forward to say that their products are equipped with electronic fence systems. This means that a drone cannot take off when it determines it is near an important department, such as an airport. However, this argument is not 100% clear, after all, the electronic fence is a software measure, in the hands of users with strong technical ability, there is no possibility of cracking.

What is even more confusing is that these mysterious aircraft have once again appeared over the airport, interfering with the take-off and landing of flights, which indicates that this is likely to be deliberate. And in the days after the incident, the relevant authorities did not catch the perpetrators. If you use an ordinary DJI drone that has been cracked and modified, it is actually very easy to catch the operator.

Tianjin is one of the four major municipalities in China, and the Tianjin airport is also a key facility. In order to ensure the safety of the flight, the airport must be equipped with a comprehensive anti-drone system. I have seen on the Internet that there are anti-drone jammers specifically for commercial drones like DJI, and they can even locate the location of the drone signal, so it is easy to trace the pilot who controls the drone. If something like this can happen again, it means the perpetrator wasn't caught the first time. This further suggests that these actions to interfere with flight are intentional, and the equipment used is not ordinary aerial photography drones, which is beyond our imagination.

The incident was a major embarrassment to management. Judging from the situation in recent years, for these things that let the relevant officials face no light, they will generally control public opinion, narrow the impact, and finally fail to solve, so it leaves a lot of room for imagination. There are three possible explanations for this:

The first explanation, the most fanciful, the least plausible, and the most popular, is that these glowing flying objects are Ufos. In general, UFO reports can be explained by scientific phenomena. However, even in such a public report on Ufos by the United States, there are some unexplained phenomena, which seem to indicate that the existence of Ufos cannot be completely denied. One of the most shocking is that the report released by the US government mentions that Ufos have appeared in the skies above the US military base, and these Ufos can render the nuclear weapons in the base inoperable. Similar events may have happened to other nuclear powers. These "aliens" seem to be very concerned about the Earth people, fearing that their momentary negligence will lead to the destruction of the nuclear war. Perhaps these Ufos are humans from the future, as depicted in the Terminator movies, to prevent nuclear war and ensure that the timeline moves in the direction of protecting humanity. There are new nuclear power plant projects being built near Tianjin in recent years, which may also be one of the reasons for UFO attention in this area.

The second theory is that these Ufos are actually U.S. military aircraft. The US military is doing this to show off its strength. This kind of thing has been done by the US military in history. In 1994, when China pursued economic construction as the center, a lot of resources were invested in economic construction, the development of military capabilities was relatively lagging behind, and the situation across the Taiwan Strait was relatively tense. In order to deter, the US military has created an unprecedented incident: sending an electronic warfare aircraft to fly over the sea of China, interfering with the operation of coastal air defense radar, causing the radar to send a false alarm, and showing the illusion of hundreds of aircraft flying in formation on the screen. The Chinese side immediately used military aircraft to intercept, and the result did not find the so-called fleet, only a small electronic warfare aircraft.

So, is the Tianjin airport incident a similar situation? From a technical point of view, this possibility is almost impossible. Because this time the aircraft shows the characteristics of the hover function, and the range of fixed-wing aircraft is generally relatively long. Even the nearest U.S. bases in Japan and South Korea are hundreds of kilometers from Tianjin, which should be beyond the range of such small hovering aircraft. And this time it is interfering with civilian facilities, and military deterrence does not mean much.

The third explanation may be closer to the truth, but it is impossible to determine at this time due to limited information. In any case, the incident did spark a wide discussion and reflection on airport security and Ufos.
