Do not judge a book by its cover

"Hey, kids, since your father will be going on a business trip for a month or more, I think it would be best for you to stay with mamu now. What do you think?" Salma asked her two children.

The daughter happily replied yes. "Yes, at least I will get to eat ice cream every day. Khurshid uncle is really caring; mom, let's go now.
Whenever Salma's husband goes abroad for business, Salma prefers to stay at her elder brother's house, so she uses it as an opportunity to spend some time with her brother, as it helps to build a better relationship between her children and their brother.

Her children prefer staying at their mamu [mother's brother]'s house rather than staying at their own house, as their mama is easy-going while their father is strict, and spending fun time with him is always a fun experience.

"Khurshid mamu is here, mom." Shazia shouted when he came to pick them up from Karachi airport.

"How are you guys? I brought some candy for you," said uncle Khurshid giving candy to both of them.

"Thank you, mamu ," said Shazia and Aamir.

On reaching mamu's apartment, they all saw a strange man was looking them from his balcony in the apartment next to theirs, who had tattoos all over his body and looked very scary.

"Who is this scary man we just passed by? I felt uneasy seeing him," Salma asked her brother.

"Oh, this is our new neighbor Zulfiqar. He has come here just a few months ago, everyone tries to avoid him because of his looks and tattoos, I myself don't know much about him yet." "Salma still said to her brother, 'Why don't we check his background first? I don't feel comfortable here anymore, I have to keep an eye on the kids all the time because he looks like a dangerous criminal to me,'"

Salma immediately went to the kids' room and told them, "I hope you guys have seen the tattooed neighbor. I don't want you guys to be anywhere near him; he looks dangerous, you two stay away from him."

But Zulfiqar, who is feared by all, started buying candy for the two kids whenever he went out of his house. At first they were afraid to accept gifts from him, but he kept doing it, and this convinced them that he really wanted friendship and closeness, and slowly they both started getting closer to him.

One day Salma saw him and said "Hey Zulfiqar, are you busy, or would you like to come to our house with us?"

"Are you sure?" Zulfiqar asked in surprise, he was very shocked and was wondering why she is calling me.

"Hey bhaiya we are neighbours and don't know each other well. I think this will help us to know you," Salma said laughing.

"I have no problem," Zulfiqar said.

"So tell us about yourself, Zulfiqar, anything you want to share," asked Mama Khurshid".

"Well, she said you know people with tattoos are considered very bad people; but there is a reason I have tattoos on my body. When you see my tattoos, you will find that they are all pictures of someone.

Actually I lost my whole family, my 3 children and their mother in a terrible accident. That is why now I have got their faces tattooed on my body so that I remember them, and the tattoo on my hand has their death dates written on it. I used to feel lonely until children came to your house; Now they remind me of my children." Zulfiqar said crying.

"Forgive us brother, we didn't know; this incident must have upset you a lot, and people's negative thinking about you has made it even more heavy. I apologize on behalf of both of us." Salma and Khurshid said consoling him.

Zulfiqar said with a sad smile, "We have to understand that things are not always as they seem; we need to get to the root of the matter before drawing any conclusions."

Thanks for reading my post, I pray to God for the progress and happy future of all Steemians

With Great love and honour,

Your post is a beautiful tribute to the power of kindness and understanding. Zulfiqar's character teaches us to look beyond appearances and connect with others. Thank you for this inspiring story.

well ! this is a very touchy short story. tattoos which zulfiqar carved on his body are totally justified. Losing our loved ones is so painful, even after years, we can't heal completely from it. I read a line somewhere that the people we lost take some part of us with them and we will never be the same as we were with them. End is good and I like it ". And it reminds that , we shouldn't be judgemental about others.

It seems that you have emotions as well as knowledge in your mind, which made you understand the pain of my story's character Zulfiqar. And as you must have seen, I had titled my story "Do not judge a book by its cover".
It is the nature of all humans in this world that they make their own assumptions about someone by looking at their looks, without knowing, understanding, testing them. Which mostly do not match the real personality of that person.
Okay, stay happy.
