How to Overcome the Voice of Self-doubt

A lot of people have been limited and placed at the same spot because they do not even believe in themselves and in their ability. There is nothing that hinders personal growth and development like self-doubt. This can manifest in many ways like feeling of lack of ability, inner critic, questioning your worth, etc. You need to stop self-doubt so that it will not stop your advancement. Here, we shall be looking at ways by which one can overcome self-doubt and build their confidence back to take on any task and accomplish it.

The first and foremost thing to do in order to overcome self-doubt is to know its source. If you do not know where a problem is originating from, you will not know where and how to solve it. There are sometimes that, just by identifying the source of the self-doubt, you will already have a cue on how to solve it. For example, if the self-doubt is coming from a past experience of failure, you can ask yourself what brought about the experience and what should be done to prevent it in the future. With this, you will already have an idea of what to do about it.

The next step towards overcoming self-doubt is to avoid conceiving negative thoughts about yourself in your mind. In fact, what you think in your mind has the ability to manifest in ways you cannot even imagine. It is true that you are given the gift to create thoughts, but what you create is entirely up to your choice of imagination. If you keep thinking negatively and Impossibilities, it will affect you negatively because you will start to think that you are not up to par with the demands of life. In fact, having negative thoughts about yourself will make you not to take steps from where you are because you will think that you will not succeed at the step.

The dangers of negative thought are so much that they do not only impact the person's mind but can extend to their actions, which also extend to their overall personality. If you see someone with low self-esteem, you will see someone that is under the effect of self-doubt. In order to overcome this, you need to focus more on thinking positively about yourself, so as to prompt positive actions that can yield the required positive results. Each time negative thoughts try to creep into your mind, you need to resist it immediately and counter it with positive thoughts, then go ahead to back it up with positive actions that will boost your confidence.

Another way to go pass self-doubt is to acknowledge and celebrate your past achievements and your previous wins. When you celebrate your past achievements, it will create a mentality within you that "if you are able to achieve something like this in the past, then nothing stops you from replicating it again in the present." This mindset will boost your morale and will make you to overcome self-doubt. In fact, when you acknowledge your past achievements, there is a level of confidence that it builds on the inside that can make you to believe more in yourself.

After acknowledging your past achievements, the next point is to take a step without a recourse to what may want to limit your mind. As a human, it is normal to experience some resistive thoughts when you want to do something you have not done before, but do not allow the thoughts to prevent you from taking the step or keeping you at the spot, rather go ahead and take the step. When you have taken that step and succeed at it, your level of confidence will so much increase that it will prompt many other steps and you will even see yourself taking giant strides. So to overcome self-doubt, learn to take actions.

The last point here is to learn to surround yourself with, and be in the company of, the people that will help you to see your true worth, not those that will doubt your worth. The kind of people you stay with the most can affect your self-esteem and can either make you to believe in yourself or doubt your ability. This is why you have to stay around the people that will support you to build your confidence.
