RE: Zertifiziertes Schafhalter-Update

Heyy @chriddi

Your football related comment led me here and I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONSSS on getting your certification. You really seem to love what you're doing

Ps: read all about the medicine you use for your sheep, I had a couple of questions. What would you use as a medicine for animals like sheep, cows etc who have worms infestation on their skins? In my humble opinion diluted Hydrogen peroxide might do the trick? Also I have a lot of cats so I know a little about their medicines for example IV ceftriaxone works the best for respiratory diseases in my cats, is it the same in livestock?

Thank you... 😊
And sorry for the late reply - I missed your comment at first.

Yes, I love what I do. Love and meaningfulness in what we do is the most important thing: I quit my very well-paid job as a teacher for it... 😇

Please let me explain: Although I am very interested in medicine (2 years studying human medicine) and do everything I can to learn alternative treatments, this certification is not an exam to become a vet. Treating sick sheep (without high costs for a vet) was of course an issue. I am still so grateful for this input!

Okay: For ectoparasites I use a medication called Butox©. It contains deltamethrin and formaldehyde. It is very effective, although not good for a diverse insect world.

Cats and livestock respond to a similar treatment. However, the ruminant stomach must be taken into account when administering the dosage orall. As long as you are dealing with lambs under six weeks of age, they are monogastric animals (very exciting that the rumen etc. only develops after birth...). This must be taken into account. Doramectin helps with lungworms. Otherwise I like to feed coltsfoot, thyme and sage. The sheep don't always like this, but when they are sick, they definitely know that these herbs help them!

Doesn't formaldehyde irritate the skin?

Also, now I know who to contact if my cats get sick, haha.

Ps: I use levamisole for endoparasites. Have you ever used it for tapeworms, hookworms etc? It works like magic but I recently got to know it is a bit toxic

Yes, it does! Oh dear, I remember a scene when we used formaldehyde as a footbath against mould. A sheep slipped and I was allowed to treat its belly, udder and extremities with milking fat for a fortnight...
However... in this remedy against external parasites, the dose is minimal... 😉

I know the active ingredient Levamisole from several medications - oral or injected.

It works like magic

Well... only if the parasites are not yet resistant. In Northern Europe there is actually a problem with this (toxic) substance in this respect: resistance! We have a big problem with resistance: The worms live, the hosts die! That's why I'm reporting so little on the net at the moment... 😢

Omg, this is really sad to read. Are your pets alright?.

The young animals are okay, they can cope with the parasite infestation with a good immune system. The old animals are ill. One sheep has died. She was too old to shake off the worms, feed through them in her stomach wall and also produce milk for three babies. Now I have three orphans again. It's very sad, yes.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Countless of my pets have died in my arms, I know what it feels like. I hope and pray for health of your remaining sheep

Deine Interpretationsgabe in Gottes Ohr...

Nicht so viel fein. Zudem überlege ich mir, wie ich aus der Nummer "Persönliches auf dem Steem" rauskomme... 🤷‍♀️ (Medikamentationsdosen sind wahrlich nicht persönlich... 😉)
