Temurui Leaves - Cooking Seasoning

I assume that almost everyone knows Rosemary leaves, a type of plant that grows well in some European countries. The leaves of this Mediterranean plant are often used as seasoning in European regions, the leaves are considered able to prevent free radicals that occur in the human brain, because they contain Antioxidants and Anti-inflammatory substances. As for the benefits of spices in Rosemary leaves, in Indonesia, there are also many spice leaves that are used for cooking and are rich in the benefits contained therein. Some of these leaves are Koja leaves, curry leaves, or, in the local language, "Temurui leaves."


For the people of Indonesia, Malaysia, and India, Temurui leaves are leaves for several types of food that are most often used in cooking. In Aceh, this leaf is quite popular and widely planted in the yard area, and thrives in the Aceh region in particular and Indonesia in general.

The characteristics of plants from this Temurui leaf plant are straightforward to recognize. Based on what I know so far:

  1. Temurui leaf plants have a taproot-shaped shape.
  2. Sympodial upright truncated (branching branching pattern).
  3. Compound-leaved crossed (the leaves are arranged crosswise and facing each other on the stalk).
  4. And this plant has no flowers.
  5. Has a distinctive aroma and fragrance.

Temurui leaves are Leaves of spices that are usually ingredients or seasonings from several local and national cuisines in Indonesia, especially in Aceh there are traditional dishes that are popular and use Temurui leaves as one of the spices for cooking ingredients. Information from families who have been told for generations in Indonesia, that Temurui leaves have effects or benefits, including :


  1. Presenting a distinctive aroma for dishes such as the use of garlic in cooking, dishes that are mixed with Temurui leaves create a sharp herbal aroma.
  2. Temurui leaves can also change the taste sensation of food that is cooked, so Temurui leaves also become a group of food flavoring leaves.
  3. Can maintain the quality of cooking so as not to quickly stale, thus extending the quality of cooking for much longer.
  4. Finally, Temurui leaves can have a health impact in neutralizing the impact of other ingredients contained in the food.
