Hello My Steemain Friends ,

How are you. I hope you people of steemian are good and enjoy your life . Well I am well. May God bless you all. Today I am writing about an interesting Steemit Engagement Challenge S20- W2: which is all time my favourite topic “Hemoglobin - Module 2". So, in this post I am going to share my point of view about this topic.

Death of Rafael Rangel

Rafael Rangel was a Venezuelan scientist. He was born on 25 April 1877. He did research on many types of diseases in Banjara, his contribution in the medical field is noteworthy. He was appointed as the first director of the bacteriology and histology laboratory in Vargas Hospital in 1902. After some time, he became a victim of depression, due to which he took the path of suicide and he died a very sad death. In 1907, he left this world and left his family.

Despite his so many contributions and achievements, he had to face many challenges. He had to face many problems regarding education abroad as well. He was refused a scholarship for studies. He also waited for it for a long time. Ultimately, at the age of just 32, he took his life by eating cyanide (which is a type of poisonous substance).

Describe Hemoglobin

Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells. It is a type of protein that brings oxygen and removes carbon dioxide. Hemoglobin is very important in our body. In simple words, if hemoglobin is in low proportion in our body, then sometimes it becomes life threatening. Its required proportion in women is 9%, while in men its proportion is 11%. Iron atoms are found in hemoglobin which helps in binding oxygen and if the amount of hemoglobin in the body decreases, then blood is also transfused as soon as possible after consulting a doctor.

There are four types of hemoglobin

Hemoglobin A (HbA)
hemoglobin A2 (HbA2)
hemoglobinF(HbF)
HemoglobinS (HbS)

People who have low protein levels in their body are at higher risk of having hemoglobin problems. This problem is often seen in pregnant women. Decreasing blood levels can lead to diseases like anemia. People who have low hemoglobin levels start experiencing symptoms like dizziness, whitening of nails, breathlessness, dizziness, etc.

Haemoglobin levels in the body can be detected through a blood test. To increase hemoglobin, beetroot juice, spinach juice, boiled potato products, sweets, etc. should be given. If hemoglobin levels are low, there is a possibility of anemia. In this situation, it is very important to consult a doctor. Doctors use injections, tablets, etc. to increase hemoglobin levels. To overcome the deficiency of hemoglobin, one should consume green leafy vegetables, protein and vitamin rich foods. And if the hemoglobin is high then dizziness and shortness of breath are more of a problem.

Automated Hematocrit vs Manual Hematocrit

Automated Hematocrit vs Manual Hematocrit

Automated Hematocrit

  • Automated hematocrit is used to measure the amount of red blood cells in the blood. It is measured by machines and it gives quick and accurate results.

  • Since it is measured like machines, it can analyze a large number of samples simultaneously.

How machines work

  • The blood sample is put into the machine and then its quantity and blood cell count can be easily seen on the screen. It is also capable of taking out a printout.

  • This process is done by the machine, so the chances of human error are negligible.

  • Electromagnetic machines are used in this process to analyze the blood sample.

Manual Hematocrit

  • In this process, a special device is used to test the blood, which is called a hematocrit tube.

  • This process is done by humans, so there are more chances of error in it. And this process takes more time.

  • As it is done manually, it can test only a small number of samples at a time.

  • This is a low-cost inexpensive process.

  • The hematocrit tube measures the blood cells and its characteristics are noted in the result.

Explain a real-life example with the concept of hematocrit

For example, if a 35-year-old man Mukesh goes to the doctor to get his blood tested. Only after testing him, the doctor can provide him treatment by properly evaluating his health.

Mukesh's blood sample is put into the blood test machine. After testing the blood through the machine, the count and quantity of blood cells is known, the result of which is that

Hematocrit (HCT) = 47%

As it was found after counting that Mukesh's red blood cells are within the normal range, which is between 45 to 54.

If Mukesh's hematocrit number was 35%, then we could say that his red blood cells are less. So Mukesh has anemia. For the treatment of anemia, it becomes necessary to consult a doctor and the doctor asks him to consume iron-rich food items along with medicine. Because due to low hemoglobin, sometimes a life-threatening problem arises.

Personal experience

Hemoglobin decreases in pregnant women. Even during my pregnancy, my hemoglobin remained 7%, which became a matter of concern. The doctor told my husband to feed him chickens cooked from the ground and sweets. if their hemoglobin increases and if her haemoglobin does not increase at the time of delivery, she will have to be given a blood transfusion. You must arrange for the blood. I faced this problem in both my pregnancies and I have also heard about this from many people who had to face this problem during pregnancy.
