Destroying The Stigma: How Psychedelic Drugs Could Reshape Society For The Better

in #health7 years ago

Nobody deserves to be locked up for taking a harmless substance that expands the mind. As an intellectual being, we are free to explore the depths of our consciousness. It's such a shame to prohibit a drug that has wonderful benefits to offer. In this article, I will share my perspective about psychedelics, and how it can help us free ourselves from the chains of social conditioning.

A large number of young individuals are labeled as criminals and locked behind bars for the consumption of psychedelics, while other harmful substances like alcohol are being sold openly to everyone, even to minors. It's a loophole in the system that doesn't get noticed by everyone. I'm not saying that alcohol is the culprit. I believe that the outcome of any drug experience depends on the set and setting, and how the user treats it. But isn't it unfair that alcohol, which is one of the primary reasons for accidents and diseases, is legal and being advertised for profit? The use of alcohol tends to be glorified and liquor-related issues are routinely expelled.

A lot of research has been done on psychedelics and the results show no link between mental health problems. In fact, it's been known to treat addiction and other mental illnesses. According to the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, researchers are seeing dramatic results from therapy that uses psychedelic drugs to treat PTSD, depression, and addiction. Therapy involving substances like Psilocybin and MDMA, better known as ecstasy, show 80 percent success rates years after treatment.

A single dose of a psychedelic drug may help an individual to confront the root causes of anxiety and depression, unlike antidepressants that only treat the symptoms. A patient that uses antidepressants as a medication will get relapses or nasty withdrawal symptoms when the routine is discontinued. These prescription drugs will eventually lose its magic because of the tolerance that builds upon the user. It is very addictive and neurotoxic which could be very deadly if abused. It makes me sad that some professionals still promote the use of these dangerous substances. It's always about the profit. They don't seem to care about the lives that they put in jeopardy. It's a never-ending cycle of deceit.

Based on my own experience, psychedelics can really provide a whole new perspective on your current situation in life. It has a potential to dissolve certain misconceptions and change the way we perceive. It helped me so much to improve the way I interact with people. I was an anxious person until I discovered these wonderful substances. It introduced me to a lot of new ideas. Terence Mckenna once said, “Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third-story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.” It's a powerful tool that made me feel whole and limitless, despite the fact that the world is being controlled by a system that prevents us to unravel or true self.
