Phones and Posture...the problem of the "forward head position"

in #health5 years ago (edited)

Mobile phone use is increasingly associated with chronic neck and shoulder issues as people spend longer and longer periods of time on their phones without awareness of poor posture. Here is a simple tip to help correct the forward head position when you are using your phone.

Here's a small introduction to my work if it's of interest

LOL - yes, I wandered over to the Hive and saw you beat me to it. LOL. Great minds think alike. Hey, wanna collaborate? LOL. It did make me smile. And it's SUCH a practical, super idea. As a matter of fact, I think I'll share it via twitter instead. :)

Grateful for the support! Thanks again Alex!

i remebner you teaching me to do the same for my laptop use. im pleased to say im still setup 'relatively;' well to this day!

Great tips! wonderful to have you posting on these things.. such an oracle of knowledge and wisdom !!

Thanks for introducing me to this community and for your welcome Alex!

Thanks for the reminder and the extra bit of knowledge on the amount of weight that pulls on us when we do this. I'm actually interested how to make this work for a laptop, as I spend way more time looking at my laptop screen than at my smartphone and I'm definitely feeling it at times :>)

With a laptop it's important to raise it up on a pile of books or a proper laptop stand so the top of the screen is at eye level. Then you need a separate keyboard and mouse at table level or better still on a pull out tray like some computer tables have, so your arms can be at your side comfortably with shoulders relaxed. The seating position is also important so the feet are just in front of the knees, hips are above the level of the knees and good lumbar support [so a height adjustable chair with a lumbar support is ideal]. I'll do a video on this soon with some simple office exercises that can be done seated which i find invaluable. . meanwhile i hope this helps.

Thank you! Just subscribed. :) will follow..

I've found myself doing similar kinds of things recently to relieve strain. One of the downsides of getting older is not being able to power through poor technique I guess.

True that, however in my office i often see youngsters with significant neck issues and even neurological consequences from forward head posture. So it doesn't really spare anyone. The muscles that work to counteract this can only do so much...
