God and the prophet Elijah: Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by. 1 Kings 19:11

The First Book of Kings relates that with the coronation of Ahab as King of Israel began one of the darkest times for the Israelites. After the death of Solomon and the division of his Kingdom into two pieces, the south under the rule of Rehoboam, and the north under the rule of Jeroboam, the problem of idolatry in Judah and Israel reached a new level.
Although many of the Canaanite peoples conquered by the Israelites remained in Canaan and lived with the descendants of Abraham, preserving their customs, it was with Jeroboam and the construction of two golden temples in Dan and Bethel that the fidelity of the Israelites to the covenant with God began to be weak. And with the coronation of Ahab the sin of idolatry reached its peak in Israel, and it was the prophet Elijah with his zeal for God who was in charge of facing this serious problem. With Elijah, if it can be said in this way, began the era of apogee and splendor for the prophetic activity. And the prophet Elijah with the example of his life had to prove the validity of a wise teaching: "When you come to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for trials" Ben Sira 2:1.
And one of the most incredible moments of Elijah's life was at God's judgment on Mount Carmel, there God performed a miracle consummating a holocaust, and because of this many prophets of Baal perished for their sin. But in response to this Elijah was persecuted by Queen Jezebel, wife of Ahab, who swore revenge for the act, and so Elijah had to flee to Mount Horeb, with this it can be said that the prophet made a return to the origins of the covenant with God.
And it was on Mount Horeb where Elijah's life changed dramatically because he had a vision of God, as the Bible tells the prophet heard a voice that told him: "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by" 1 Kings 19:11. Elijah also received the mission to anoint two kings and Elisha as his successor. The fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) and trust always guided Elijah, who for his faith is said to have been taken to heaven in a chariot of fire.
