Hello everyone! Bill from Byyfor gaming here. Welcome to the Sally Face episode three review. This episode was by far the darkest in the series so far. With at least two more episodes to go, I can imagine that it will only get more disturbing from here!
The episode begins with Sal being interviewed by a journalist just a few hours before his trial. We learn that Sal has denied any legal representation and will be defending himself. The journalist asks a series of questions, but Sal only goes into detail on the very last question asked. “Is it true that you have special lunch privileges because you are afraid of bologna?”.

Sal insists that he is not afraid of bologna. The reporter is relentless on the topic so Sal proceeds to tell the tale of why he refuses to eat it.
This story begins with Sal and company eating lunch in their high school cafeteria on bologna sandwich day. They believe that the bologna is bad and seek to prove that it is not fit for consumption. With the help of his friends Larry, Todd, and Ashley, Sal is able to acquire meat for testing. Todd and Ashley take the extra bologna to the science lab, but can’t seem to find any signs of rancid meat. After questioning the lunch lady, they discover that the school buys the bologna from the school’s math teacher, Mrs. Packerton. After breaking into Mrs. Packerton’s desk, Larry and Sal find a bird skull, spices of some sort, crystals, a bible, some papers covered in strange symbols, and a puzzle box.

The group decides that the strange contents of the desk warrant an investigation of Mrs. Packerton’s apartment, which is located in the same building Sal and Larry live in. With Todd and Ashley’s help, Sal and Larry infiltrate her apartment. As they enter, they are greeted by a powerful odor that Larry says smells like “ass and feet”. After some snooping around they enter a bedroom that is being used to make the bologna. In the freezer Larry, Sal, and Ashley discover a gruesome sight, a heaping pile of human flesh.

After leaving the room Ashley finds what looks like a laundry chute hidden behind a painting. While looking down the chute, Ashley loses her balance and falls in. Sal, Larry, and Todd then run to the basement to try and find where the drop took Ashley. They discover a trap door hidden under carpet and proceed down a dark passageway. The passageway leads to a massive, seemingly abandoned, temple.

After navigating mazes and completing puzzles the trio are able to find Ashley and they escape the temple. The group argues over how to proceed with this terrifying information. They believe that going to the authorities is pointless because they seem to be helping the cult cover up their crimes. The screen fades back to the interview between the journalist and Sal. Sal reveals to the journalist that before they could act, Mrs. Packerton was killed in a drunk driving accident. He then asks the journalist how the interview with Todd went. The journalist reveals that Todd’s mental health is declining, and that nothing the doctors do have been helping him. Sal says that he knows what’s wrong with Todd, and that he can help. The screen then shows Todd in a straight jacket, eyes glowing red similar to the red eyed demon from previous episodes.

This episode was by far my favorite in the series. This is the first real experience you have with a member of the cult, and the first time you see their actions affect people outside of the apartment building. So far your knowledge of the cult and its activities have come through the experience and recollections of ghosts. It was fun to see the influence that this organization has throughout the town and I am curious to see how deep it goes. I also enjoyed learning more about the main characters. Early in the episode you go through the lockers of Todd, Larry, and Ashley. Each locker was personalized to fit each character’s unique personality. It gave the characters an extra layer of depth that made me more interested in them. I am excited to see how much more they develop as the series goes on.
