Time to Enjoy Some Fruits of Our Labor

in #friends6 years ago

Best idea to date on the homestead! For the last 3 years we have been working hard to get our garden and animal needs fully met. This has been my passion and the passion for the entire family for the last 3 years for 6 days a week. I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to do this work day in and day out!

Today, I want to talk about a new passion I have... Our family and friends enjoy playing volleyball, tennis, and sometimes bad mitten. So thought why not make a few changes on the homestead. Two weeks ago I started running power so I could set up a light pole. It gets hot in Arkansas in the summer so why not extend the hours by adding a light?

Next I looked at how we could transform the tennis court to meet all game requests. I spoke with a friend and he came up with an idea to extend the tennis poles for volleyball and bad mitten. Awesome!

Leaving a space still allows a person you use the original poles for tennis. The extension allows a person to set up a net for volleyball and bad mitten. A little green paint and they look like a million bucks!

Spalding sells an aluminum pole set up for just over $2,200. One thing I've learned on the farm if you can make it yourself or local you can usually save a few bucks.

Now I looked at the court, it needed some cleaning and resurfacing. This can be an expensive but thankfully the Lord provided some additional people to come up with a cost effective solution. But is starts with a clean surface. More to come in this area at a later date.

I spent just over 20 hours power washing the entire concrete surface.

Hopefully we can finish the court in 1-2 weeks, weather dependent! I will take another picture when everything is complete.

So what fun projects are you planning for your family this year? I am asking because I can tell you 3 years of working with minimal fun can make anyone a little crazy!! Last night we had 5 families over and we played volleyball until 1130pm. I may be a little sore this morning but I want to have fun times with my family also!

There are always projects to be done on the homestead, but this one looks like it should take priority! Everyones some fun and exercise! Great idea to get together with other homeschool families!

Oh wow! Your homestead came with a tennis court?? That's crazy! Very cool that you will be continuing to use it, especially for fun activities like those!

Nice work Chris! Tennis court on the homestead? This year I hope to have a fire pit area to enjoy in the cooler evenings!

LOL I am looking at this and wondering when you have time to play?

The lights give me the best chance! Plus my kids are really helping in many areas which is allowing us to get everything done. I am starting to understand why families were larger in the past!

That is awesome. Great idea. I am sure that will get a lot of use.

We have big plans, hoping to put together weekly or bi-weekly tournaments with our home school friends.

Is that court on your homestead? Or somewhere nearby? I know what you mean! My husband and I have been doing house projects ever since we moved in 3 years ago, and it’s gotten a little crazy! We’re almost done though! Any fun projects we have usually involve taking a break from the farm lol

I think all humans have some limit before they just get tired. Yes it is our tennis court, it makes an amazing place for the young one and now we are making it better for all ages!

How fun! We would love to build benches along our trails we make on the farm so we could sit and enjoy our fav spots.

I agree - sometimes it is good to stop a enjoy, the benches sound nice!
