The first one he remembered clearly. Mary Shelby. He had fell in love with her name—it made him think of science experiments and castles in the rain. Maybe she had been his Dr. Frankenstein, bringing him to life only to leave him shortly after. Drifting alone. Looking for someone to love him.

He was pretty sure the one in the gym had been the fourth or fifth. She was all macros and heavy lifting. All BMR, BFP, BMI and other ‘B’s. He had fell for her body and her Sunday evening grilled artichoke. Her depart had hurt much more than a pulled muscle and the pain lasted longer than the worst DOMS.

Like a cat, one by one his lives went off. He hoped some sort of warning would let him know he was at down to the last one. He had lost count years ago.

Maybe the thought about a future together was the warning—he hadn’t had that with the others. Time was relative, but he was absolutely sure he wanted to spend it by her side. Maybe that was it. Destiny or just maturity. Or even persistence. Or the fear of ending up alone. Maybe that’s all it took to find the right one.

Partially back here with a 5 min freewrite for today's prompt, artichoke (I totally googled that I had no idea it was an edible thing!)

Aww, cute! I love the little observance about relationships and cat lives. Quite relatable, tbh.

I was hoping for an arti-joke
