Food Blog; My favourite Fresh Raw Prawn in Spicy fish sauce dressing. "Goong Chee Nam Pla"

This is one of my favourites, another childhood memory that i first tried when i was 12 years old. It is definitely not for the faint-hearted. But if you love raw fish/sashimi and those types of dishes you will need to give this one a try. The recipe is called 'Fresh Raw Prawns in Spicy Fish Sauce Dressing" translated in Lao and Thai it means "Goong Che Nam Pla". 

This colourful dish consists of raw prawns. The fresher the better. Fish sauce, hot chillis, garlic, lemon or lime and msg. Msg is optional but it gives the sauce more of a hit. The heads and shell on the prawns are carefully removed and butterfield so they lay flat and open. This is for when we pour the sauce over and it drenches and covers the prawns. You then pound in a mortar and pestle a clove of garlic, hot chillies, fish sauce, garlic, lemon and msg. The aim is to have a sensation of balanced flavours which include a mix of spicy, fish saucy and sour at an intensified level. 

This delicious and mouth-watering sauce is then poured over the prawns. Chopped up coriander is then sprinkled on top for presentation. For those that love or have tried this i hope this has made you crave it yet again and for those that have yet to try it i hope you enjoy it!

With one of my other favourite dishes; freshly sliced up sashimi that i enjoy with sashimi soya sauce and alfalfa sprouts.
