The Dextroverse- A harm-reduction site for pharmaceutical psychonauts.
I'm going to be straightforward with you- I've been an avid member of the 'counterculture' for the better part of my life. And while I don't condone or recommend the use of most drugs- especially hard drugs (Cocaine, Crack, Methamphetamine, Heroin, etc...), I have always been of the mindset that nobody should have the right to tell anybody else what to do with their body. Also, I believe that it's human nature to be curious, and I believe that- no matter how strong the warnings are and no matter how many times people try to dissuade others from experimenting with psychoactives -a certain percentage of the population is inevitably still going to experiment. So with that being said- I wanted to introduce to you a new project that I'm working on aimed at harm-reduction through the education of substance users by providing factual, informed details about various substances. This information would include, but is not limited to- drug history, common uses in society, potential side-effects and overdose risks, dosage calculators, and if applicable an MSDS on the substance(s). The substances covered will not be limited to illegal or illicit substances- rather, it will cover everything from Alcohol to over-the-counter meds that are being abused for their psychoactive effects. I would also like to include a chatbox or a message forum or something of the like- possibly both- as well as links to help centers and addiction counseling and hotlines. The first substance I will be detailing (and the benefactor for my site name) is Dextromethorphan. This was not chosen at random or by coincidence- rather I chose this as my starting point because several years back, a very close family member of mine lost her teenage son to this substance due to complications with his prescription blood-pressure medications and his tendency to mix chemicals without worrying about possible negative effects. If this site can educate anyone, or prevent at least one unnecessary death or hospital stay- then I will consider this a successful venture. I'll drop a link to the website at the end of this post- remember, it's a work in progress and there's quite literally almost nothing there yet. But check back every few days and you can watch the progress of the site and let me know how everything is functioning, and you can tell me what ideas you may have for the site.
