Scientists At Russian Nuclear Lab Arrested For Mining Crypto

The Russian Federal Security Service, or FSB, has taken several scientists working at a nuclear weapons research facility into custody after it had been discovered they had utilized a supercomputer to mine cryptocurrency. "There has been an unsanctioned attempt to use computer facilities for private purposes including so-called mining," said a representative from the Scientific Research Institute for Experimental Physics when asked of the matter.

The scientists in custody reportedly commandeered one of Russia's most powerful supercomputers in order to engage in crypto mining. The research center's security department received an alert that the machine had been connected to the internet which, for security reasons are normally kept offline.

There have been other reports of industrial facilities in Russia being used for crypto-mining, and one businessman even purchased two power stations for the purpose of mining.
