Welcome to the VDux Haiku Contest

Steemit is full of fun contests. Too many to mention, but I'll name drop a few, like @firepower, @terrycraft, @dpatcher, @lymmerik, @mermaidvampire... and many more people hosting so many great contests!

I just had to start my own. Read below for more about the contest instructions, how to participate, awards, and how I'll select a winner.

Contest Instructions

Write a haiku.

This must be a one-stanza, traditional 5-7-5 haiku like the ones described here: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm . Here’s an example:

Vdux posted this

A Steemit haiku contest

Let's see how it goes

You may submit multiple haikus, but you need to make each haiku its own reply. Each Haiku will be considered a separate entry.

My advice -- keep it simple and fun! You can write a great haiku in 30 seconds!

How to Participate

  1. Reply below with your haiku. Deadine: 11:59 pm UTC, February 24, 2018.
  2. Upvote this post. Deadline: 11:59 pm UTC, February 24, 2018.

That's it! But...

You should also resteem this post to increase the winner's prize and give yourself some free exposure! You can participate without resteeming -- I don't give preference -- but if you do resteem, it only helps you.

And upvote other entries you like!

Also, post your entry on your own blog and mention @vdux, and I'll give you an upvote and resteem your post.

Awards

Winner gets:

  • 2 SBD
  • Half of this post's author awards
  • One free "shout-out" from me
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

One runner-up gets:

  • One free "shout-out" from me
  • One free resteem from me for any of the winner's posts. (You choose the post. There's no time limit but I reserve the right to refuse to resteem any post I consider offensive or indecent -- I'll simply ask you for a different, non-offensive post.)

How I Will Select the Winner

Within 2 days after the deadline, I will read all entries and choose a winner and runner-up. While I'll take upvotes into consideration, my selection will reflect my personal preference based on the entries you submit.

I plan to run this haiku contest regularly so if yours doesn't win, try again next time.

Special thanks to all who offered advice on this contest -- especially @mermaidvampire and @lymmerik.

Let the contest begin!

PS -- This contest will also be featured in @moneyinfant newsletter. Free shout out to anybody who suggests a topic for the next Haiku contest!

My mind is cloudy
Steemit got me feeling dope
Or is it the pot?

My wife is the best
She makes food for my travels
I drive a semi

Oh yeah. A topic for a haiku: favorite soup.

Sounds like somebody is hungry!

Yep. Constantly hungry. LOL. 😎

Never tried to write

That vdux posted

Nice! Really? Not too painful, I hope.

No it’s not 😂 it makes me motivated.

I can write haiku
But they are not always great
I'll try anyway

Brilliant!

Haha, thanks. I've actually posted other haiku to my blog in the past but I figured it would be a decent idea to come up with a new one.

Cool. Hey, I listened to a little bit of your podcast. What made you think to get started into that?

Oh cool, thanks for checking it out. The idea for Simply Us was actually my wife's but I had originally been doing a Doctor Who podcast with her brother so I had a little experience (which influenced her idea for ours). Basically, all of what we've been learning about simple living and minimalism led us to wanting to share a bit about our story and not necessarily keep it to that specific topic.

Brilliance is mad
Madness is a curse, or gift?
Who am I to say

Sorry if I went too deep, I was really feelin it.

I feel it, @jacksonl. And I'll give you credit for bril-li-ance as three sylables. Thanks for the submission!

This is great, @vdux. I love haikus! I see you checked out moneyinfant already. Best of luck with your first contest in Steemit. You're doing an awesome job.

Life's short like Haikus
Cherish what you have right now
Before death arrives

Thank you for your haiku! I admit I did a double-take at first glance -- juxtaposition of Madonna and a casket. Then I saw the haiku wedged inbetween them.

Old habits die hard.

Black coffee,No cream.
That'sit.

Thank you for your entry! For this contest, you need to write a traditional haiku -- 5-7-5, like the ones on this page: http://www.kidzone.ws/poetry/haiku.htm

I think he did - I think the final line is a comment, not part of the haiku.
But that's just my take.

Yea I guess I shouldn't be so much of a stickler...

@dildil7401 when I judge I'll remove the "now" from the beginning of the second line so it has 7 syllables.

Oops - missed that. Sounds good.
And actually, when it comes to haiku, I'm pretty much a stickler myself. I love the traditional form.

Rules be rules, nome sane?

Great! Thank you! Did you take that picture?

Oh @vdux I found it in (free to use and share) google search. :) Sorry, I should have provided that info...

It's all good, I ask because I liked it.

@vdux,
Here is my entry into the haiku contest!

@vdux,
Well, I don't know how that happened? Oh Well I updated the link and now it goes to my post.
Thanks for letting me know.
