How I think Shazam's movie will be?

in #cinema6 years ago

Hi everyone!, I want to take a break from what I'm writing so today I'm going to talk about the trailer that came out of Shazam recently And also a little bit of what I think the movie will be like, so, here we go.

First, you should know that I quite like the world of superheroes, the two publishers as such (DC and Marvel). But, I'm not one to start hating a film just because it's a bit different from the original material (comic books), so I'll tell you what I think of the trailer. First of all I have to say that I really like the way the trailer starts, they start by introducing us to the identity behind Shazam; Billy Batson. In a way, they've been indicating Billy's personality in a good way, which in spite of looking like a troubled kid, has a big heart, and yes, that's just what Billy has been in comic books these last few years, I know. Then, you can see that the film will be one of these typical films of origin: A person discovers/acquires new powers, and then uses them to fight evil while learning to use them, simple, right? But rather than revealing the plot, the trailer is more focused on presenting the tone of the film, which will be characterized by humor and many jokes. Even though it's a trailer, you see great special effects, I mean, just watch The Rock of Eternity, it's beautiful.

Now, my opinion on what I expect the film to be like is mixed. On the one hand, yes, I forgive Shazam for having the touch of humor, and I sincerely hoped he would, the last time I saw him in an animation, he have that immature childish touch, but with wisdom (from him powers) (See Young Justice, and you see what I mean) So, from somewhere you had to get the touch of humor. There are also the actors; I do feel that Shazam needs a little more form, it shows a bit the filling of the suit, but I guess he needed it because they casted the actor about 1-2 months before he started the recordings, he couldn't get up to the level of The Rock either, but as for his appearance, the costume and its resemblance, it's Shazam! I'm not saying that Zachary Levi was the only option in the world to play it, but his features made them quite similar, and of course he has his faults, but, for me they are all forgivable. Billy's character himself, it seems to me, will not transcend much, which worries me; I worry that they will only use him as an empty jar, and that when Shazam first appears, they will take him to the background.

Now, as I was saying, the character is being introduced for the first time to the DCEU, we do have references from the comics, but as this is the first time we see him in live-action, if you put the touch of humor would be quite forgivable. I mean, let's take the MCU as an example, we already knew Ant-man from before, from the comics, but in their first film they introduced him with a touch of humor and they all thought he was great! Because the character wasn't very well known, and since they didn't have any other great reference to him, they now see Ant-man as a funny, completely normal character; a case that I think will happen with Shazam, as opposed to Thor (who, we already knew as a serious character, everywhere, and when they suddenly turned him into a cartoon character, he was totally hated).

What worries me is that the film itself is a joke, I understand that at the beginning the character takes the whole powers thing as a joke, but I'd like to see a twist at the end, where he takes his role seriously, you know, the "moment of reflection" and not that the final fight and all that is also a joke.

Anyway, I think Shazam! will be a fresh twist to the character, and to the whole universe. You'll get away from all the darkness that comes from the DCEU and be trying your luck with a touch of humor. According to critics of people who have already seen the film, it could easily be one of the best films of 2019, but the good trailer that brought us the Comic-Con makes me hope for Shazam! and it makes me think that the film will end up being great, entertaining and very funny, but I also hope to see epic and serious moments, I mean, it still has the wisdom of Salomon, right? That should be a perfect excuse to get serious in the last 30-40 minutes.

I hope you like this review. If you do, remember vote and follow me, thanks. Bye!
