Bring Ahe'ey to Life - Sky pencils; work in progress!

Busy weekend here at the Kommienezuspadt residence in Minneapolis, but despite my workload, I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to participate in @jamielefay’s #bringaheeytolife contest.

I decided to draw Sky, in particular, the battle scene from episode 9, where she killed two of the advancing Hu’urei. The quote from the beginning of this post, “…she dipped her hand in his wound and licked the blood”, was irresistible for me. I immediately got an image in my head and I’m happy to say, the drawing turned out pretty close to that.

I grew up admiring Frank Frazetta, Gerald Brom, Boris Vallejo, and several artists that graced the covers and pages of Heavy Metal magazine. This completely satisfied my desire to do more intricate, dark fantasy.

This is just a work in progress, showing the pencils so far. I’ll be inking it the next few days. I’m hoping the finished artwork has a distinguished graphic novel feel. All done on the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Procreate.

Thanks to @jamielefay for her willingness to share Ahe’ey with the community and open this contest to the artists here at Steemit.

More art, photography and thoughts shared daily on my blog. Follow me @kommienezuspadt!

Oh my goodness, your anatomical lines are simply gorgeous!

Gorgeous! And thanks for sharing it's done in Procreate. I have those tools myself but haven't spent near enough time getting to grips with them. This is definitely a motivation to delve into my iPad Pro some more. Would love to see more tutorial info or even just know if those are custom pencil brushes or the defaults.

Beautiful work. I find the eyes particularly striking.

@xyanthon thank you! Yeah. I redrew them several times so I appreciate that!

Great art. I dropped you a follow

Thank you @kiddarko! Lots more to come. Thanks for the follow as well.

Really really nice work

Wow! Incredibly powerful. This Sky a very fierce. You are a great artist @kommienezuspadt. Your style is raw and totally heavy metal. Rock On!

Her hair is perfect and I like her power stance. The body is strong and able, and the clothes are divine and allow her to move and fight.

A couple of minor comments that will improve your chances of winning one of the prizes. Quality, intricate work, likes yours, totally deserves a prize.

  1. The Hu’urei look like humans. You may want to remove the pointy hear and add some hair in one of them.
  2. Sky at this stage of the novel is a teen; this is her first moment of violence, rage and defiance. Have a think about how you could tone down slightly the lips and eyes, and still make her look totally fierce.
  3. Lastly, I assume the body is not encased in armour as boob plates would kill her -> (http://www.tor.com/2013/05/06/boob-plate-armor-would-kill-you/). So I assume the golden metal will appear in the arms and shoulders and that the body is covered with leather. Love the outfit.

Terrific work. I'm in awe of your skills. Thank you, thank you, thank you. J

Thanks for the notes @jamielefay, and kind words! I can clean up the Hu'urei. Costume change isn't a biggie either. The lip looks fuller in this because she's suppose to be dragging it down with the lick [...that'll be coming after the inking]. Also, there's going to be a lot of blood around her mouth [...considering doing the stripes across the face. Do you think that'll be too much?].

I'll make changes during the inking process. Thanks again for the opportunity!

Fabulous, thank you. Blood around the mouth and stripes are good, we just need to make her face a bit younger. I'm excited about this!!! Thank youuuuu. J.

I'm not sure if you are portraying Sky with pointy ears or not, it's hard to tell. She also looks like a human. She does very powerful genes and physical strength and natural beauty... and ... and... ;)

Her leg -> " as another Hu’urei jumped in her direction and pierced her thigh with his sword. She screamed in agony" Thanks. J.

Oh my goodness, I'm so excited about this submission. Good luck
@kommienezuspadt.

You are incredible Ms J. The boob plate article is very good. You should have warned the designers that Ahe'ey is a feminist novel. I think after the changes this should probably be one of the winner.

The next episode will out me completely. ;)

I am resteeming this. I love your lining. upvoted...

Ah, man @skapaneas! Thank you! The resteems are a great honor because I know that's a reflection of your taste, and your feed overall. That means a lot!

It's simply beautiful. I see a very strong warrior. I'd like see more powerful muscles :)

Thank you very much @bontonstory! Some future posts will have that for sure. I'm kind of on a Frazetta-esk Amazonian kick lately.

This can totally take away the prize. Ahe'ey is coming alive.

I hope so @portuguesinha! I could use the extra SBD, and it's been fun so far to sketch this out! Can't wait to start inking tomorrow.
