Abandoned Shit Weekly Submission: Vehicles

in #aswcontest6 years ago (edited)

My husband and I were on one of our fishing trips. By fishing trips, I mean he fishes and I wander around aimlessly with my camera trying not to fall in the creek. This particular outing was in a relatively untouched and uninhabited area in Martin's Creek, PA. From the gravel pull off alongside a narrow rural road where we essentially abandoned our car, we walked for what seemed like miles through forests of very mature hardwoods and high grass fields towards the creek. He said he knew a great little fishing hole where there were always trout. I wrestled with the internal question of whether I knew my new husband well enough to be certain that this wasn't an expedition to discretely dispose of my body. I decided that in reality I was far more concerned about the prospect of enormous prehistoric looking spiders lunging out of the tall grass. I shuddered as we ambled forward.

I began the hear the gurgle of the running water. I suspected that we neared the creek and but also hoped we weren't stumbling upon a hillbilly moonshine operation and that the gurgling was water cooling the still. I briefly entertained the idea of a throwing back a rustic crock jug and taking a big swig of that beautiful elixir...I mean before they shot us for invading their camp. I was attempting to refocus my rather active imagination when as we rounded the edge of the field I noticed something very out of place. There, a few hundred yards ahead of us was an old Dodge dump truck. There wasn't a house in sight for miles and no obvious avenue for how anyone could have even gotten the old truck back here. I approached intrigued but cautiously. I imagined a family or irritated raccoons charging us or a bobcat asleep in the front seat, but no, the truck was thoroughly abandoned by animal and human alike. The bed of the truck was still slightly raised as though someone had brought it back to the creeks edge to dump something when the back tires got mired in the soft soil of the creeks edge. What might someone have been trying to dispose of? And again, my imagination was off to the races...

Beautiful shot, and such a cool truck on its own. It's a journey of imagination to think of all the work that vehicle did in its lifetime, only to be abandoned for some reason at the end. We'll never know why.

Thank you. I love the patina on the truck itself. And my imagination really did run wild imagining the history.

Like the touches of red rust amonst all that green.

Thank you. I really love the visual texture of the patina on the truck. I found it quite inspiring.

Greetings: you stopped by and read a post of mine about Farmers and Steemit. Thanks for that. I was curious and came to check out your blog. You are indeed a superior photographer, but also you have a good sense of humor and actually are a darned good writer. I noticed your best payout was about "My Cowboy". My condolences to be sure.

What I'm saying is you are not getting noticed enough and are not making enough$$. Don't know what communities you are in but you may want to take a look at who comments on my posts and follow them, and snoop around my neighborhood. I seem to be getting supported quite well.

Anyway, hope your husband caught some nice trout. Many blessings.

@mistermercury Thank you. That is a wonderful compliment. I definitely know I need to get involved in more communities. I'm a member of The Writer's Block and they have been very supportive. It has been difficult for me to find time, but also because of my time commitments to family, I have considered myself rather unreliable and didn't want that to spill over into anyone else's life. In the end, these are all just excuses that I need to overcome.
