Tokio Police - Futuristic Car - Modelling and texturing - Part 1

in #art7 years ago

Goodmorning Steemians!
Here we are with a new project: A futuristic Tokio police car.

Searching for references

As always i've started by searching for references. Pinterest is a huge pool for finding helpful images, after many hours "looking for" i've found this incredible concept from the work of Jet Arts (Dmitry Popov), Parallax Art Studio.

Setting up the work

Founded the appropiate image i've started dividing the different views and setting up the project. I always use Maya Autodesk for HardSurface modelling.

The model

Then i've subdvided the car in small pieces and decided where to start. The doors look pretty simple so i've started from them.

In order to model in the fastest way as possible i've started creating a base plane mesh extruding edges as needed.

After 4 hours of work i've finally finished the base mesh for the car

UVs and Texel Density

Now the hard part, as you noticed in my Introduce Yourself (Older than 7 Days don't waster your upvote).
I'm a Texture artist, specialized in Game Assets, so this is the hardest part but for me the most fun.
I've started cutting edges in order to make the 3D model a 2 dimensional model where i can paint textures

After 2 hours i've noticed something terrible, trying to deleting the history (in order to clean the scene from caches and more), i've pressed the wrong shortcut duplicating the whole model.
I've no image for this big mess, it's better for everyone ;)

Then i've put a checker on the model to "check" the correct uv orientation and to be sure that where no stretches around.

Conclusions

Now the fun part begins, texturing the model. I'm currently texturing it so i will write a second part when everything will be finished.
If you like my model and my Reel, and want to know more about how i work and how to model and texture in 3D, leave me a comment i will be glad to reply you and make some interesting tutorials about 3D and GameDevelopment!

Ciao @smilever12 !!
